    Default Swing away tire carrier

Hey, If anyone is interested, I got the new 4Wheel Drive hardware vintage jeep catalogue yesterday, and they have advertised a spare tire carrier. It mounts to the back of the frame and goes behind the tailgate and it only costs $200.

Anyone have any experience with it?

Of course it's only recommended for tires up to 31". Wondering if it could be beefed up for 33s?

I bet a 33x10.5 would be fine. My old kayline was rated for 31 also but held my 33x10.5 spare no problem. I would have tried this one but I wanted to have access to the tailgate.

Fiberglass tub puts enough things in the way as it is. So no tailgate anyway. Swinging away would be nice to get in the back of the Jeep though.

Not for positive, but guessing I can't hardly build one for that price with the price of steel now. That and I wouldn't be building it. I'd be enticing someone else to do it.

Now will it work with a bumper behind it (looks like it would) and a hitch on the bumper. Just trying to think through everything first. I'm tempted to just get the Cross Enterprises tire carrier that bolts onto a 2"x4" like both rear bumpers I have and putting a reciever hitch in one of them. Prolly worth the extra $85 for the Cross over this one. From the Cross Enterprises Website:
Already have a rear bumper? Our tire rack is designed to fit around 2"x 4" or 2"x 5" rectangular tubing of at least 3/16" wall thickness.
    Hardware and drill bit included.

looks like it might actually swing out... might be too weak for 33s then.

$85 more for the Cross Trail Mate I Tire Rack, I think I'll just go with that now that I think about it.

My rack is from cross... very well made imo.

I would go with their version if it is like the tire carrier part of mine (i got the bumper as well)

I have it. Looks to me to be beefy enough for 33s. About the only thing I fear breaking is the latch, that could use some beefing up.
