Default Starting my jeep without a key

Ok so it's almost back together and I really would like to fire it up.
    2 questions.

    1. I don't have the key. I plan to buy a new ignition but haven't yet.
I know when they ripped off our 4-runner they just stuffed a screwdriver in the ignition to start it.......(if I remember right).
I don't mind thrashing what I got if it works as I do plan on buying a new one.
If that doesn't work, how do I hot wire it. I figure I have to get the ignition hot then turn it over.........what wires and how?

    2. Fuel tank has a hole and is out of the Jeep.
Can I just gravity feed the carb from a gas can, bypassing the fuel pump?

    Thanks.

    1. My Commando wiring is all hacked apart so to get it going I ran a wire from the battery to a toggle switch and back to the distributor (I have HEI, if you don't it would have to go to the coil). Someone had already installed a horn button at some time, so I wired this from the battery and back to the starter. Works great, but the drawback is that anyone can start it at any time (which for me isn't a problem as the Commando isn't in any shape to go anywhere).

    2. My gas lines are all shot (actually, I'm not even sure which of the gas tanks the valve is turned to), so I I just ran a line from the input to the fuel pump to a one gallon gas can. Don't think you would want to have it gravity feed to the carb.

I made a hot wire box out of a conduit box, two switches, and some wire. To make it better I glued some magnets on the back of the box. I used three different color wires to make sure I didn't connect up one wrong.

One switch is an on off toggle, and the other is a push button.

wire from + side of battery (through a 10 amp in line fuse) to the box and connect to one side of each switch).

Wire from the toggle switch to + side of coil.

Wire from push button switch to starter solenoid coil.

    turn toggle switch on
press push button switch to start and let go when it fires up.

Turn toggle switch off and engine will stop.

Now that makes for a cool visual in my head. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to get where your going huh!

yeah my actaul ignition is exactly like the hot wire box, except on the dash not a box. Works great. Just flick it on then puch the button.

I put the battery on the floor by the starter. Then put a gas can on the floor in front of the front bumper. Then ran a hose from the gas can to the fuel pump. I then connected the battery cables to the battery. I also put a wire to the start teminal on the starter and one to the distributor. With both wire in my hand I toughed the wires to the hot side of the battery. And started the motor. Then removed start wire.

Tried a screwdriver in the ignition before I wired up the other option, just ended up turning the whole thing in the dash.

you do know that the ign switch runs about $9. you don't need a good one, just one that works.
