Thread: Starter Bendix Stuck Out! How do I reset?

Default Starter Bendix Stuck Out! How do I reset?

The starter bendix on my neighbor's 1962 CJ-5 is stuck in the full out or engage position. We have pulled the starter, but don't know how to pop the bendix back in. Any directions or reference to a technical info page would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ted

Do you have the Prestolite or Delco starter? Do you have the Folo-thru bendix or the overrunning clutch type bendix? F head or 225v6?

It's the F-head. The starter is a PS-1360 which I would imagine is Prestolite. As for the Bendix type I don't know. It looks like a standard Bendix which would probably be the folo-thru.

IIRC I had that happen while I was working on one of my starters, it released when I hooked the starter up to a battery & let it spin at full speed.

We tried to spin it, but maybe we didn't get it up to full speed. We'll try it - right after the Super Bowl!!
