I use a wing nut, as mentioned earlier. It works very well, but can be a little frustrating when you need to get into the tool box a lot - like I do.

When I was in grade school I used to have those backpacks with the little metal latches that you could twist to hold the cover down. They would match up with a rectangular hole when twisted one way, and then squeeze down on it when turned the other way to hold the cover down. I think that must be what was being described earlier, but thought I would mention it anyway. If you had the time to work with it awhile, it seems like this kind of thing could be fabricated in the average garage....

Here's how I mounted my passenger seat in order to get access to the storage compartment. With the high back seats, I couldn't tilt it forward enough to open the compartment, so when i have to, I just lift out the seat.

So far: Saginaw PS box (now with a PS pump), Tilt steering column, High-back bucket seats, Fabricated front frame horns, Warn Overdrive, Fabricated front bumper, 4" lift (PO said 6" but I don't think so!), Mojave heater. (Does a K&N air filter count? Sure.) K&N air filter. Now featuring Pertronics ignition. And swing out rear tire carrier and new bumper. Whoop, whoop!

Thanks for the ideas guys...I had another brainstorm last night.

I think if attach a small chunk of angle iron to the inner back part of the seat frame I can make a spare Jeep hood tie-down work. The height is pretty close, and then there'd be some tension on the seat.

Used to do that in Dutch, but it won't work with the TJ style belts I have now in SSD.

Pictures remind me of trunk latches in Hondas.

The gate latch would work if you put the movable part on the seat and the stationary part on the floor. I think it would rattle though.

FTW! I like it Mike, so much that I intend to use it in my flatty. (Just as soon as I swap out the '3A passenger seat for the '2A seat I've had for a coupla years..)

while innovative, I would rather see something more secure for safety purposes...I can see the movement allowing the seat to launch in a sudden stop..your view on this might be different.
