Flanged Dana 44 have 30 spline differential side gears which accept 30 spline axle shafts.

Great. Thanks. With this info I just bought 2 power locks for 50.00. Using in my Jeep and 1 in my old bronco front end as long as the Jeep rear and bronco front are same axle size diameter

Pretty rare to find powerlocks for a 30 spline 44. Are they by any chance a Trac lok?

Can't be too rare. I bought one brand new from Toms Bronco Parts. 30 spline.

Interesting as there is no brand name or country of origin on their site. Original Powr-Lok units for a 30 spline 44 are pretty hard to find and I don't believe were ever offered in a Jeep. IH and Ford did use some though.

Yea with only 16 months the DANA 44 30 spline flanged being used its hard to imagine they would be worth to much effort on the after Market. I went with an E Locker in mine.

Everything I've seen says that Jeep switched from OEM PowerLock to OEM TracLock when they went to flanged axles. Applies to the whole line, Wagoneers and trucks too (they got the flanged 44 a little earlier than the CJ). Somehow I think the PowerLock was available from Dana with 30 splines in the day, but not on the regular factory option list. Pretty sure the window sticker made no distinction, and just said "Limited slip rear axle" or something to that effect.

FWIW i bought an aftermarket power lock from R&P. The guys at the Bronco place didnt have a series 4 for 5.38 gearset. I have run it now in my home made full float setup in the early D44 housing that had 19 spline axleshafts with great reliability and zero problems. The 30 spline case does take different bearings than the 19 spline case, but everything just bolts right in...If you have tapered axleshafts, none of this is relevant to you.

The flanged axleshafts should work just fine. The power lock limited slip is a great upgrade. Zero issues on turns, great traction when you need it to both wheels.

The only thing I noticed with my power lock from Toms Bronco Parts is they are pretty tight. Backing up slowly around a turn I can tell both tires are driven. They said because the jeep is so light. They said after you drive it for a bit they should loosen up a bit. Will see.
