@Fireball @timsresort @Andrew Theros @GillaFunk do any of you guys know what the correct pilot bushing is for a T90J input shaft into a dauntless? The tip of the input shaft I have is 0.625" (which makes me think it’s from a T90J). All of the Dauntless bushings I can find are 0.594" for the T90C.

I know I have a T86 Case with what I think are T90J input shaft (although the shift tower says T90C).

    Doing some research here:
    http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/126499/

Could I have a T90J shaft, with a 0.628" diameter tip? What is the right bushing then to match the T90J shaft to the stock Dauntless crank bore?

I'm having a hard time finding the correct ID of 0.628" and OD of 1.094 (the bore in the crankshaft measures 1.088" with a bore caliper, figure a press fit would be slightly larger).

This one from Advance Adapters looks close but maybe a fraction too loose:
    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/add-716171

It looks like the one that we bought at O'Reillys a year ago and opened up the inside of on the lathe also didn’t quite have the right clearance on the outer diameter either and it ended up heating up and sticking to the input shaft and spinning in the bore.

I sent them an email earlier and described the situation fingers crossed they do! Just frustrating that I didn’t know about this before hand to have the part ready because now I bet it’s going to be at least a week before I can get this part and put it all back together….

But in the good news column - I have seats!

I’ll definitely get in touch with Novak. From this description, the AA one might work too:

Excuse me if you went over this already, but are those pre-made covers, or done professionally? I have this coming up.

They were recovered and partially rebuilt by Mark Denison at Denison Auto Interiors in Sparks. While he did an amazing job, it took him about 9 months, which was OK with me because I didn’t have storage space for them and he timed them being done in sync with my overall progress.

Ok guys good morning. Hope your coffee is as hot and tasty as mine!

I'm taking advantage of this pause in the re-build to do a deep dive into research this AM with clutches, bushings, forks, and t/o bearings so I can be 100% sure I don't have to take this thing apart again for a few years.

This (https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/clutches-etc/) is an amazing resource. I am definitely going to call Novak Tuesday and talk this through with them.

So here is a summary of what I have on this Jeep.

After reading Novak's Clutch Info page, I am currently debating whether it makes sense for me to upgrade to their adjustable t/o bearing and adjustable pivot pin and do some calculations since I have so much non-stock frankenstein stuff in this setup.

What do you guys think? Just run the SKF t/o bearing? Or measure and get the adjustable Novak bearing?

Here you can see the Crown new clutch fork that caused this whole debacle in the first place next to the one Tim sent me, obvious that the retaining spring spread apart and shows why it kept falling off the pivot ball:

Here is the damaged flange of the t/o bearing that came in the Luk clutch kit (looks to be the SKF bearing specc'ed above)

    The original pivot pin:

A look inside the transmission from last year before I tore it down and replaced the pilot bearing

I have the adjustable ball stud if you want it.
Or if you want to test with it, and dont want it you can send it back.

You could do that measuring since it's apart, but I don't think there will be any problem. You could check the ball stud, fork and bearing to see if everything works. Should be good to go. BTW, I have considered the Novak (and I love them) adjustable bearing before, but in the end have not needed to use one.

What's the proper name for this "bellhousing lower dust cover?" I tried to get it back into good shape but it occasionally rubs on the front of the flywheel and makes a metal-on-metal grinding sound. Might try to source a replacement that's not so hammered (literally). Someone before me bent the tang at the starter side back and forth a few times too many and it looks like it's about to snap off.

Also - @Fireball what do you think - should I polish the end of the input shaft where it got overheated and became discolored? it is not scored at all, it's still smooth.

If it were me I would polish it but I'm not sure it would make any difference.

Those bellhousing inspection covers are hard to find. Your best bet would be an ad in the classified section or doing some repair work on the one you have. I straightened mine out with the vice and a hammer. You have to take care to keep the rib on the small area below the starter.

OK how about the bottom of the driver seat. This seems to be the only way I can figure out how to get these brackets to work and it seems like the seat itself is too far up towards the steering wheel and the sliding mechanism doesn’t work.

it’s been four years since this was last together, of course I didn’t take any pictures of the brackets and this is how it came back to me from the seat restorer.

Well I easily solved that problem by removing those flat brackets and just bolting the seat through the round-bar bracket above the fuel tank.

What are these brackets for then? I honestly don’t even remember them being attached to the seat.
