A big day has finally arrived!
I have been doing a little work as time allows, filling with fluids and fixing leaks.
I pinched the gasket in the water neck when the thermostat slid down on installation. New gasket
and hold t-stat in place, bolt back up, leak stopped.

Now a little side story I gave a friend a very nice 2a frame that I acquired and repaired for him,
he's swapping from a hacked up early 5 frame that was under his 2a.
He told me he wasn't going to put new gaskets in his 18, I told him that would be fine if he didn't care how much
    it leaked.

Then I carefully filled my t-case/overdrive and realized I hadn't even put a pan gasket
    on it!

Now on to the good stuff, I still don't have the fuel tank in, but I do have a charged battery
and was checking the wiring and decided to try and start it.
I hooked up a couple battery cables (temp's) poured a little gas down the carb. and hit the key.
By some miracle It fired right off
I have fought and fought with the HEI and was sure it was in the right tooth but
I wasn't ready for it to start,I didn't even have the cap latched yet.
So here is the second try I dropped the hose in my fuel can and hit the key.
(Crossing fingers for luck) If the video works, the first try is without the key on, I forgot it!
I'm using a remote, you can hear the fan motor come on when I turn on the ignition.
    Sorry about the T-rex!

I was so delighted I threw the air cleaner on and tried it again.
    Sorry about the Rush.

My timing light is broken so I can't do any final tune yet,
    but it lives.

I got a little more done and thought I better add the photo's in case any one
    has been following along.

Sealed the top to the body with silicone and bolted it back down, then covered the entire inside with peel and seal.

Then pulled the windows and glued carpet up on the sides.

    Driver side.

    Passenger side.

    Cut out for the windows.

Tinted the glass with Limo-Black and re-installed.

    Outside view.

Then I started the body work in earnest.

After a lot of sanding, cursing and removal of nearly a years damage(surface rust) I started final painting.
"Hot Rod Flatz Boulevard Black" on the hood and windshield.

    And the drip rail.

After some quick wet sanding on the primer with 400 and 600 grit I hit the jambs, notches and fuel filler
with the final color. It was going so nice that I decided to shoot the whole thing even though the sky was
dark and it had rained every day in August so far.
The top, the rear and most of the sides were done when a down pour hit.

It's really hard to see but this is what happens to wet enamel paint when it rains.

Fuel filler, paint was just running down the side.

    Driver side cowl.

    Side of the top.

The left rear tailgate opening the storm came from this direction.

First coat on the tailgate I carried it inside after the first few drops so this is the only piece that survived.

After 2 days of rain I went out and surveyed the damage, then sanded everything back down. I tried
to save the primer and did for most of the body, just a few spots had to be re-primed and sanded. Then
I started over on the final paint.

I painted the inside of the hatch the same as the body so it will offset all the black.

Raining again, might as well continue showing this weeks progress.
Removing paper from the front end.

Started putting lights and everything else on body, removed the tape on the hood stripe.

Installing the diamond plate damage hiders, I put a bead of silicone around
the outside and around each bolt hole to keep dirt and water from getting
    between these and the body.

Then the mounts for the spare tire/can rack, all stainless button head and ny-locks.

Then the hatch for the top, you can see the body color against the black interior.

    Passenger door, v-6 badge.

    Close up of V-6 badge.

Wow someone else is actually reading this thread ?!

58 Willys, I am delighted with how the paint finally layed down. First time using a single stage urethane
and I couldn't be happier with the finish. I use a 30 dollar e-pay gun,
(2 on this beauty because my old gravity feed gun quit while I was painting the last of the black),
obviously outside in any weather and I'm not a painter, but It turned out good.
Not any dirt to speak of but a few nasty bugs.

Wheelie, I do have a little more yellow to shoot but It's really not exactly Prairie Gold
    just a similar knock-off.

The rest of the paint pics.

    Pass. side profile.

Front 3/4 pass. side. Look thru the windows you can see my next project, 1951 A-model w/Koenig hardtop.

    The back hatch.

Couple of 3/4 pass. side rears, with the home made bumper and tire/can rack installed.

And the tail lights finally on, from a distance they look to be in the stock location.

I was doing everything I could to delay Installing the tank and body seal but they were next.
I lined the floor and the bottom of the tank w/ peel and seal. Then ran a ring of foam tape insulation
around the opening in the floor. Then a t-with plug and barbed hose fitting for the fuel outlet.

Installed the black flap looking thing is the peel and seal that was covering the hole.

Next I notched the strap to fit around the new sending unit, it is hard to see but I glued split pipe insulation on
the back of the tank to seal it between the tank and the body, and on the tunnel and door sides I used full pieces
now nothing can get behind or under the tank.

On the front I crammed foam under and sealed it with silicone. After it dried I pulled the bolt and finished
behind the strap then bolted it back down.

Whoops found one of the donkey d*** glued between the tank and floor on the tunnel side, you
can also see the piece glued on the back a little better here.

Then I pulled the plastic, paper and tape out from under the hood and installed the
fresh air hose for the home built heater.

    One from overhead.

Just like from the factory in 66'

Then I hung the driver side door and pin striped it.

    Different angle same door.

Passenger side and windshield frame pin striped.

Shooting for having it ready for hunting season? I usually come up for 2nd season (got a Cow tag this year), but looks like work is sending me to England instead. I'll have to look you up next time I'm in town.
