I have a pair of new races to install in a pair of new front Dana 27 wheel hubs. Can I put the hubs in the oven and races in the freezer or will this need a shop press?

You can do it all with good brass punch and a hammer.

I always use a punch and a hammer. Not even brass. I have never had an issue.

I usually put the races in the freezer then use an old race and block of wood to knock them in

Good excuse to go buy a brass drift. Who doesn't love new tools.

Your FLAPS should have race driver set.

I just replaced the bearings and races in my '68 cj5's d27 hubs a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure you already know this, but the inside of the hub has two channels, 180 degrees apart, that give access to the back of the races. I used a brass drift, like everyone mentioned, to tap out the races. I used two of the races I removed, in addition to a block of wood, to tap in the new races.

That's the way to do it , use the old race to drive in the new race.

Using A steel punch will destroy Your new races .

Sold Bearings for 50 Years seen it many times.
