Radiator Overflow Tank Options

Yes Sir........ That's the one I got from our FLAPS. Different styliee , but from Dorman.

* Note: to All . This works as sorta , kinda, an expansion tank. The hose goes in the bottom. Hot coolant overflows to the reservoir tank. When it cools , it creates a siphon to draw it back thru to the radiator.

 

Even if you do over fill it, it will flow out until it reaches its desired level. Mine just looses some somewhere where I never see evidence but during summers it will get low on its own and then starts to run a little hotter, I add a little and goes back to normal for the next couple months, depending on how much I’m driving it. Not really a big deal, but just not as new cars in that respect.

 

Found an early photo of mine. I just bolted the metal cage to the inner fender.

 

Regular cap. Hose to bottom of recovery tank.
Your recovery tank just needs to be big enough for whatever your system needs.
Otherwise it will still cycle over the recovery capacity then pull the recovery empty and have air In the radiator

 

The main reason for a recovery bottle is to keep air out of the cooling system. Air promotes oxidation which causes deterioration of cooling system components.
Modern standard radiator caps all have the vacuum valve necessary for a recovery system.

That’s what I’m tellin ya. It just slowly disappears. I’ve looked everywhere. I've even laid out paper towels trying to catch a glimpse. It's magic, OR the wife sneaks out in the middle of the night every once in awhile and takes a little out. I’ve even hidden a camera behind my crescent wrench trying to catch a shot, but no luck so far. But I believe she's behind the mystery. I’m thinking I need to move the camera to a better hiding place. Maybe behind the hammer. She’ll never think to find it there.

 

Most likely it's a small leak around a hot part of the engine and it evaporates before it ever gets to the ground.

 

I'm cheap. I made my overflow tank out of PVC pipe and fitting. I also add a site glass to be able to check fluid level in the tank. I may have invested $10.00 to build it.

 

I made one out of an old metal water bottle and a bicycle water bottle mount I had laying around. Even put a sight tube in it. I think I'm in it around $10 as well.

 

Yeah, I think that bottle cost me about $30, plus freight, but I'm sure I was ordering more than just that, so the freight really doesn't figure into it for me.

 

I also use the same Dorman 603-001 for years, with the normal radiator cap. Works good.

I was considering one of those big cans of malt liquor. It’s cheap enough that I could just dump the booze and use the can. But I had a sailor Jerry bottle lying around so I used that.

 

The piece of ReBar is a nice touch , also.
