An intermediate fuel tank is going into my ECJ5. The question I have is to the location (measurements) of the filler in the tail lamp panel. Before I pick what looks to be the best spot, I figured there may be a “correct” location. Any input would be appreciated.

Depends on which tank you use. The intermediate tank does not allow much variation because of the stiffness of the hoses.

    Another rear fuel tank question...

If you use the '78ish tank, you can put the filler on the fender or on the back panel. Boyink covers this in his how-to from the Wayback.

    Gas Tank Relocation.

This topic has been covered a lot in the past.

If there isn’t a common location amongst intermediates, than the hoses will set the location. Thank you.

Not sure what you mean. The filler design changes with the later tank, using smaller, flexible hoses. Anything '76 or later is not intermediate. Intermediates use larger molded hoses.

It would be best if located or conformed so as not to get ripped open if the jeep rolls over or gets flipped.

There is...it's where tim shows in his picture on the passenger rear above the taillights....but most of the rear tank installs people do use a later tank with different filler hoses etc so location gets moved elsewhere.

Side mount filler with the later tank makes for easy hose routing. I used gas-rated rubber hose.

I appreciate the feedback. Here is the background story. Last fall I was ordering a bunch of parts, but was vacillating on a tank purchase. I put the 76+ tank in and out of the cart several times. Unfortunately, when I committed to the tank and skid plate purchase(and the rest of the parts) one morning before work, I mistakenly put the intermediate tank in the cart. It wasn’t until a while later when I pulled it from the box that I realized my mistake. At this point the more cost effective option was to continue with the intermediate tank parts vs buy a 76+ tank.

With the intermediate filler neck and hose pieces due this week; I am trying to figure out where I should drill the hole to best duplicate the intermediate tub. I was hoping someone could tell me the center of the filler hole was X number of inches top to bottom and Y number of inches left to right on the tail lamp panel. If the rubber hose isn’t very flexible as Tim said, that will dictate location.

    Again, I appreciate the responses.

bingo - the hose won't leave you much room for error...it certainly would help with drilling the hole in the body to have good measurement on the outside - maybe Tim or someone can get you that. I just moved my filler hose for my intermediate tank set-up from the side to the rear and made my own filler hose.

I thought there was a drawing posted recently with that info. You can measure it off the picture I posted. The filler is inline left to right with the tail light and the backup light. Use your ruler or calipers and measure the panel top to bottom, then on the picture, and measure the up-down location of the filler. The picture is a tiny bit oblique to the panel, but that distortion of the top to bottom measurement should be negligible.
