These hubs came on my new to me 64 tuxedo. I have not seen these type before.
Has anyone seen or used these?
The grease in them is too old and stiff to easily work the levers right now. Just wanted to know about
these before I start taking them off or apart to clean them up.
    Thanks folks,
    "Doc"

    FinoCJ, Wow, those look great!

Do you have info on a website or maybe some exploded parts diagrams?

    thanks

The 3B my brother had had them. Worked great, only disadvantage we noticed was a lot of room was required to flip out the bars and spin them around. More than once I had to shovel out dirt for enough room to change them. Also once when we became stuck against a large log we had to chop a rather large chunk of wood out for room to turn them.

Disassembly and repair is very simple, simple construction. Once you take them apart you will see without question how to service them.
If I remember correctly sometimes you would need to roll the jeep a few inches to allow the internal notches to mesh so that you could fully swing the bars and press them back into their home slot positions when locking them.

Yep. Good stuff. I will certainly take them apart and service them as soon as possible. Looking forward to getting in there. I have always liked learning new stuff.

    Doc,

As Fino CJ stated, very simplistic design and easy to disassemble.

Very desirable hubs, especially for the folks with the earlier Jeeps with the threaded axle ends. They come up on Ebay and other sites and always go for a big price.

More modern hubs are not deep enough to work with the older axles.

good stuff folks. Good to know. waiting on parts for the 231 V6 in the el camino so I can clear some space in the shop.
Have to have a local shop install cam bearings in the block. I am not set up for that. Get those installed and the last 2 connecting rods in and it
is off to the races, so to speak.

There are two versions of the dualmatic hubs. One has room for the threaded axle nut and the other does not. Buyer beware.

Yeah, don't scrap them. They are worth something to someone even if they are not complete.

There have been a lot of people who have cut off the ends of their axles to be able to use the shorter hubs. This is something that I have even seen recommended by some places selling hubs that won't work with the longer axles, but those places just want to sell you the hubs. It is a very bad idea as that is how the axle end play is set on the older design, and cutting off the axle will usually lead to failure of the joints.

Either style hub will work on the later axles as are used in a CJ5, as the end play is controlled internally by a different bushing.

They are super simple and easy to rebuild the only thing that can be an issue is the ball detents that hold the leavers down. The housing has a lip to hold the balls in it has to be bent over far enough to hold the ball but not so far that it doesnt reach the leaver. Only really a problem if they are super worn or corroded

I don't have too high of an opinion on them either. I split the housing on a pair of those with a completely stock FC 150. That two point contact leaves a whole lot to be desired strength wise.
