    A fine sketch

Are the rectangles in the middle of the top view for the body mounts? They stick out pretty far.

Another major drivetrain piece just fell into my lap.

I texted a guy a week+ ago about a Ford 10.25” FF rear axle he had listed for $100 that was about 90 minutes away. It’s not ideal, but I figure it’s so cheap, and since the gear ratios supposedly match my front, I’ll make do. I offered him $50. He said he’s gotta have $100. I walked.

He texted me last night out of the blue, said he’d take $75. I told him I’d do $100 if he’d deliver it. He said ‘deal.’

Joke’s on him though, I was actually gonna contact him about this today. I did my homework and saw on his FB page that he works near here, so I figured it wouldn’t be too much extra work to bring it with him. It played out just as I’d planned, but he contacted me.

We’re working out the details, but I should have this by tomorrow. I’ll have to dip into the super secret $ fund for this. :ninja:

Will you use it with drum brakes or convert it to disc brakes?

Drums are fine. I’ll weld the spiders, and it’ll probably never be out of 4wd, so if they don’t work as well as the fronts (or at all), I probably wouldn’t notice anyway.

If you guys are expecting another Varg build, I’m warning you now, this won’t be one. That was form and function, this will be just function. :twist:

I just had a kick in the gut. I stopped by the metal place to check prices, and 2 sticks of 2” x 4” x 3/16” tubing is $790!!!

I’ll have to check the scrap place to see what they have.

Well, I just want to say this...........if you break these axles or even wear them out, I'm going to have to start calling you names. I like the "Build for function only" thing.

I saw 19 sheets of new 1/2 inch ply stacked at a homeless camp today… with a used door under the pile. All jammed in the bushes along the river.

I ran out to the scrap place in the jeep yesterday to see what they had for this project, and another project that’s in the works.

They had no 2” by 4” by anything, but they had this:

A pallet of 2” x 3” by 1/4” rectangular tube, cut square on one end, and to 24” on the short side of the angle. I went home and checked my prints, and I was happy to confirm my hunch that the longest section of uncut frame section is 24”.

2 x 3 isn’t optimal, but 1/4” wall thickness should make up for it.

I went back this morning and grabbed 20 pieces, along with a 1/4” plate and one 1/8”. Grand total: $178.65
    :bananatool:

I’m excited to get started on this… after Halloween of course. :twist:
