I took apart the dash on my ‘73 to rebuild the heat / defroster, which seems to have been a success. I thought I carefully labeled each wire connection and put all back as it was. Everything seems to work, except now when I turn on my turn signals, both sides flash. Left or right, same thing. Any thoughts on where I should start to figure this out?

With a single filament for both, all the action for brakes and indicators happens in the turn signal switch. If it were mine, I would sit down with the schematic and draw it out, then measure at each point I could get to.

Good idea to check the grounds. They always seem to be a source of trouble.

It's very hard to diagnose such problems without the Jeep in front of you. Suggest you trace it out and measure.

I think the flasher goes out separately from the brakes and indicators. Expect it has to if it's going to flash at all four corners. I would expect if either of the indicators are shorted to the brakes, then both sides would flash instead of the one side.

I don't have the time to trace this out for the OP today; I would encourage him to take the initiative and write out the schematic for the flashers and indicators on a sheet of paper. Or if he can read the schematic and follow each circuit, that will be enough to understand where to test and what to do. Possibly photocopy the schematic and trace each wire with colored pencil; whatever works for you.

It may very well be the hookup to the hazard flasher switch. When I first connected the battery, the front yellow lights came on. I switched some wires on the hazard switch and that seemed to fix it. There is an incredible amount of wiring passing through that switch, lots of room for a mix up. I’ll try that.

Update: it was the wiring connections to the hazard flasher switch. I moved them around to different terminals, and that fixed it.
