Is this the correct position for the gas pedal linkage? It hits against the valve cover and when actuated touches the underside of the spark plug wires bracket. I cannot assume anything being correct since I got this jeep in a very modified and rough condition. Thanks!

Alex, I don’t remember that linkage getting that close to the valve cover. It shouldn’t be leaning in enough to touch. It does follow that route over the top, but the rod pulling that arm should not allow for the over-center condition shown. You do have the bellcrank down on the side of the engine block?

I had the same problem on one of mine. This photo is off my next project, but the way I solved the current one was to buy and adjustable linkage and bend it.

Here is another thread of similar issues: http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/152364/#post-1730091

This is the new linkage I bought and bent. It is threaded the entire length so it was fairly easy to install.

Someone more talented than I am (most people) could probably fashion one with a rigid piece of rod material.

    Best of luck.

Eric, can you post a couple of pictures of the other side of the linkage seen on the blue valve cover? Thanks!

I forgot to add... there is an adjustment you can make on the lower bellcrank that is attached to the throttle pedal. Reach down under the exhaust manifold (cold engine) and push the throttle linkage forward just a bit. That might lift the upper bellcrank away from the valve cover. I'm not 100% certain this will work since there is no stop to how far the pedal retracts. But if there is a stop, maybe an adjustment can be made there? Others here can probably verify or refute that idea.

I hope these help. Let me know if you want different angles. Please note, this is my next project so it is has not been tidied up.
