The lug nut holes on my aluminum wheels are too small for the aluminum wheel type lug nuts to fit in (see picture). They do have bevels on the holes which the standard lug nuts work with but I hear aluminum wheels will wallow out if you run them like this.

I'm worried about drilling them. Can I use a step bit (a little from each side) to hog out the hole so the lug nut fits inside?

The one on the left is what I'm using, the one on the right is the style I want to use.

I'm fine with running what I have if it won't hurt the wheel.

I just switched from the type on the left to something similar to what you have on the right. My goal was to use as much of the threads as possible since my wheel studs are a bit short for the standard lug nut.

If a wheel came from the manufacturer cut for 60° conical seat lug nuts, I'm generally going to say that they're intended to be used with conical seat lug nuts.

You can find whatever you are looking for on Amazon. I have Ansen wheels on my Jeep, they have a 1" off set so I needed longer Lugnuts with a flat washer, I found them on Amazon. I got Stainless centers for them there too. Good luck. Fair price too.

I would switch to standard bulge type acorn lug nuts. I don't see any need to drill the wheels, you already have a tapered seat.
