Can you put 11" drum brakes on a 1955 rear differential? I have them on my 67 but I'm not sure about the earlier ones.

Sure can, it is the same configuration as the 67. I have put 11" drum brakes on CJ2A, CJ3A, and CJ5 Jeeps. The rear backing plates for the later Jeeps with a flanged axle can be used by drilling two holes, or 11" front backing plates from several early 70s Jeeps, Broncos, or IH Scout II are what I have typically used as they are easier to source than the rear plates with E-brakes.

If you need 11" backing plates that will work I have a few extra.

Thanks but I think I have found a set of rears and may do a Dana 30 narrow track for the front. I will keep it in mind.
