I have a a 1964 Cj5 with three speed, and met an individual with a ‘55 body equipped with a T-10 four speed for sale.Would this mate to my F134 engine. Thoughts on transmission? Any input helpful. Thank you!

T10 is a car type 4 speed. They were common in Corvettes, Mustangs, stuff like that in the 60's & 70's. Used to be common to see them swapped into Jeeps along with a V8 conversion, it's a lot stronger that the Jeep T90 trans. It will NOT mate up to an F134.

Yep. That would be a pretty silly match and I'm pretty sure no one makes or has made an adapter. The T10 is way stronger than a T90 but most of them will have even less for a first gear ratio than the already crappy T90A's 2.79:1. Only the late versions Super T10's (79-82) will likely have the 2.88 or 3.14 first gear ratios. Your best bet here is to stick with the T90C that you have or install the T98 4 speed that was offered as a factory option. That can be installed with stock parts but those may be hard to find.

AA used to offer an adapter for the T10. I've seen a couple of them in CJ's, mostly with V8 conversions. It is super old school and as stated, the first gear ratio's were too high. They also run an external shifter which has the tendency to gather mud, rocks, and twigs, sometimes making shifting a chore.

Both Novak and AA made transfer case adapters to both 18 and 20 transfer cases for the T-10. Duffer is referring to an adapter to an F-Head. I’ve never heard of one of those.
As far as gearing, depends on the use. For sand use, mud/sand drags, short course racing, etc., they work well. I’ve used them myself for these applications. For trail running, I agree there are better choices since the first gear kind of stinks. As far as the external linkage goes getting filled with stuff can happen but if everything is set up correctly is a minimal concern. I’ve run Saginaw 4 speeds since the late ‘80’s with no issues. The shifter lever can be a pain getting set up right and cutting the floor for the shifter is undesirable in my opinion and I agree old school.
I would not go out of my way to install one unless using for a very specific application where quick shifting and racing type needs come into play.

I have a wide ratio Super T10 coupled to a D20 with an AA adapter behind an SBC in my old school Chevy van. Works just fine mechanically, but low (3.25:1) is too high and high (1:1) is too low. van idaho.jpeg
