Back story... So many years ago I lucked up and ran into a set of 1988 XJ axles with the D44 rear. I have it in my 1998 XJ now, but I've never totally finished it. I had to move a few times and along the way I lost some of the brake hardware associated with the E brake..

I love junkyard parts so I would like to find these parts.. Is there any resource that cross references brakes used on various vehicles? The D44 Cherokee was kinda rare (<5% produced) so I am hoping these 10 x 2 brakes are like some really common on other vehicles..

    Thanks!

I'd check part numbers on something like Rockauto. I would check to see if they share the same p/n with most of the other Cherokees out there that run the 10" brakes. I'm think that maybe the backing plates are just drilled differently between the 44 and the Chrysler rear. Just a guess though. I'd be curious about this. Maybe 11" brakes from a cj could be an optional upgrade???????

Yeah I would start looking around for P/Ns. Maybe join/post up in the XJ forums. Those parts are probably going to be very difficult to find.

I put the same axle under my XJ. I went to Napa and told them that i was looking for brake parts. None of the other parts houses carried them since the axle was so rare. The guy at Napa said to measure the drum (10") and ensure the width of the shoe and just buy all the parts that way. He got me everything I needed, including the hardware parts. The other thing I had to do was to change the ebrake cables from the old axle as the 44 were different lengths.

    FWIW,
    Mike

Good to know! I did run into the same thing with the brake cables, so I fabbed up a little adapter at the drum face to make that work. I am missing parts 5,6, 8 and 20 in the drawing above but what I find interesting in that drawing is that it lists other jeeps they came on so at least I have a boneyard list to look for. I will try the Napa route as well.. There is an old school Napa nearby that may be able to help..
