Good morning. Reaching out to the collective brain trust to guide my noob knowledge. I have a 69 CJ5 with a 225 oddfire. Live in Baja MX and the Green Goat was running poorly. Boys at shop pulled the heads and said need to be replaced. Doubt machining is an option here as we have more burros and dogs than people.

Wondering if anyone can recommend a company that I can purchase a set of reco heads? I can have them shipped to San Diego and friend driving down soon.

Any other parts that should be replaced during process? Just rebuilt the carb and will add a new distributor to the package.

I am way out of my element when it comes to deep dive on Jeeps and engines at large. Been doing a lot of reading here, but more questions than answers. Love driving the Verde Cabra and as a family heirloom, want to keep her running and happy.

Appreciate any insight and thank you in advance.

A simple Google search for "Reconditioned Buick 225 head" got a lot of hits. They are out there, but they are not cheap. I recommend you place a WTB add in the forum classifieds as there may be someone on the forum with a set of good heads they want to sell.

I agree with Oldpappy. If that doesn’t work the normal replaced parts are core plugs, valve seals, exhaust seats. The rest of the parts like valve guides, valves, valve springs, etc. should be checked for wear and replaced if needed. A good machine shop should be able to perform these checks as a normal part of the rebuild process.
I can recommend Rick’s Cylinder Head in Oak Grove, OR although I don’t know if they have 225 cores to build initially. I’ve been having them rebuild cylinder heads of all types for myself and work for 30 years. Just had them do my 252 (4.1l Buick v-6) heads and they came out like new.

That's ALLOT to invest into the top end without considering work to the entire engine.
I know this may be pricey but it's cheap in the long run. S&J engines has your complete model available.

I installed one of these several years ago and it's been fantastic!

Great idea and will post to a WTB. Would rather spend a few extra $ for the extra parts to make sure it's one and done... for now

I saw some wear on the outside on the edges and was asking about machining, but may have to find someone in La Paz to truly answer the question if they can be machined down. Didn't see any visual cracks.

Great idea and will call them. Saw a big list of vendors someone posted, so may try to go down the list as well. HAte to spend the cash for something like this, but I thinkit's worth it. I will give them a call and see what comes of it. Thank you so much. CM

    Can you post some picts?
My aged brain can't visualize the issue.
Barring cracking, irreversible damage, or cost overrun, there shouldn't be any reason the heads couldn't be rebuilt.
