so i was extremely happy that my steering shaft fit fine from box to column when i started out with my first set of motor mounts. when i changed them out and now these new mounts are a bit different and my shaft has hitting the exhaust manifold flange edge. i am using a YJ ujoint setup at the column and it has a large diameter head on it that does the contact. i did get a smaller diameter ujonit and i still may have some contact. I was thinking about going under the mount.

    my question is.

Has anymore made a small spud shaft to extend the steering column output down a touch to attach the ujoint. I am worried about if there is going to be too much lever. i am not going a crazy amount of length over what it is, but i am thinking about 3 inch extension. Is there nothing really to worry about or is it something bad?

I'll probably be doing the same on my current project. Borgeson has the parts (straight coupler and dd shaft)I may add a support bearing if I don't feel warm and fuzzy at mock up.

Have you thought about a double cardan joint at the base of the column? That will result in a lower position for the steering shaft but you would have to add a bearing of some sort to keep the steering shaft aligned.

I am now leaning toward that. i was mocking things up last night and it looks like i am not going to get away with the standard ujoint coupler. i am going to probably go for the support bearing and the double ujoint

I had to jog my steering to the left to clear my header on my build. I used a Borgenson Double U-Joint with a Heim bearing mounted on the frame to the original steering box mounting holes.

And of course this was done after I thought I could get away with a single. SOOOOO only another $200 so if you know anyone looking for a brand new Borgenson stainless steel single Double D U joint I'll make them a deal LOL
