Well ,back to brake issues again.. I took the jeep for a short drive a few days ago, had to pump the brakes to get them to grab....i pressure bled them again, with no change....ordered a new Master cylinder on ebay, it wont be here til after new years......hope it works.. don't know if the MC has ever been changed ? if it was it was when my dad still owned it in the 80's....will post an update when i get the new one on ...

Pull the residual pressure valves and make sure they are intact and complete. I noticed the duckbill inside my wilwood 2psi RPV is cracked.

You checked off all the boxes and still have an intermittent problem. I suspect a master cylinder will take care of the issue. Let us know.

Have you done the master cylinder swap yet? I'm curious how it worked for you....I just got a new MC , am thinking my old one may be original and bypassing or something....I have the front end apart now replacing ball joints and axle u joints, but hopefully get it back together in a week or so and then will change the MC,,,,

It's on but needs bleed. I've got quite a bit of front end work to do before I can tell how it is on the road.

So far I've realized that although I ran it for years with the single master cylinder my front and rear k10 calipers are different model years so it's an SAE wrench on the front and metric for the rear.

I got some 35ml syringes to try n pull the air out and push good fluid back in. Should be a single person operation without loosing all the fluid in the master cylinder, I also don't want to be doing crunches all day.

well Im happy!!!! installed new MC last friday, bench bled it for a long time, took awhile to get all the air out....put it on the jeep, used pressure bleeder , bled the brakes on all 4 corners, didnt get back to it until today, put the wheels back on, took it for a drive, brakes work perfect!!!!! I bought a new MC ,original one for the jeep, removed the 10 lb residual valve in the rear port, just like i did on the old MC.....left the inline 2 lb residual valve .......Just want to thank everybody that helped with their advice.....oh yeah, it steers great now also with the new ball joints and tie rod/end ...i like the wagoneer axles, wider so more stable on the road, also with power steering now!!

I have success with my new MC, so remove the 10 lb residual valve in the rear port, install an inline 2 lb residual valve close to the MC....this would be for the front disc brakes

jeep on rock in field.jpg jeep with waggy axles 2.jpg jeep with waggy axles 1.jpg waggy axles, power steering , it all works great, may need a little taller springs for more flex,, will see ....so next is putting new steering wheel on, make overflow bottle for radiator, make rock sliders, mount high lift jack on front brush guard...then the real expense ,regear front and rear and add lockers

Has anyone done this with Brennan's kit, and if so is the grinding for clearance still necessary?

Great looking cj5. I am glad your brakes are working great. I know how frustrating those things can be.

In my case, no grinding was required with Brennans Trackkick bracket. I would guess that the Geo calipers are a bit smaller.

I re plumbed the MC so that the front discs were coming from the primary reservoir (closest to the pedal). I already had a dual reservoir so no other changes.
I may still change to organic pads in the future, the ceramic don't feel very “grabby”.
