If you are looking at Kaiser-Willys, don't! Most of that kit will be Omix or maybe Crown, neither of which I want in my Jeeps, especially so the engine. Maybe less convenient, but I would order what you need from Ron Fitzpatrick, Debella, Walcks, Midwest Willys or Willys America. I think it would be more than worth the time to call all those folks before ordering anything. A huge, solid, knowledge base with those people.

First thing to do is tear it down and take the block and head to the machine shop for cleaning and inspection. They will be able to tell you if the block can be honed to use the same pistons, or if it needs to be bored which means new pistons. They can also tell you whether you need new valves.

I never have bought a "kit" because they often have more than is needed, and often do not specify parts origin.

I buy the best quality parts I can find, and many of the "Rebuild Kits" out there don't tell you the brand of pistons, rings, and bearings which to me indicates the parts are likely Omix-Ada imports, and I won't use most Omix-ADA parts, particularly when it comes to critical components.

If valves are needed NOS are still available, I have bought them from various sources. I use Hastings rings, and Silvolite pistons, and US made bearings.

Dan Sharon has the rings and pistons I would use, but I don't see any main or rod bearings listed on his site today.

Recommend buying the seal from a reputable supplier.

I have bought one from QTM which was good quality and doesn't leak.

QTM is within driving distance for me, and they sell quality parts which I can look at before buying which is why I tend to buy a lot of stuff from them. I have bought a lot of parts from Walcks, and RFJP as well and always been pleased with quality.
