Oh, I bet the hubs had been changed from lock-o-matic to the mile marker at some point. when they were changed the original old jeep lock was not available so they just left the special lock-o-matic nut on there to lock the wheel bearing. With the mile marker hubs I would guess the regular 31 mm lock nut would work fine. Check with ''mile marker" to be sure.
Wow, glad you did not have lock-o-matic hubs, because those nuts are not available anywhere that I know of.

Don't need to "out" them if you can just send them on through the backside. I believe standard setscrews from the hardware store will work as replacements.

I have replaced mine with set screws I got a the NAPA. however hopefully he won't need this nut if he has new mile marker hubs. The standard jeep 31 MM lock nut should work with them. The smooth drag nut he has is a Warn lock-o-matic specific lock nut.

Hey everyone. So I'm new to the site and I have a question with a photo I was hoping to get sorted out. I've always been an old CJ or FSJ guy but I'm definitely not as knowledgeable as alot of you guys here. I went to look at a 1965 CJ5 that I wanted to purchase. The owner describes it as a CJ5 with a 283 V8 and a 4 speed. At first glance it is what it is. Body and frame looked good, engine was old but ran ok, the. I noticed the shifter location. Can anyone tell me if they've ever seen a shifter located in the same spot shown in the photo?

My guess is that you have a 4 speed from a chevy car with shift rods on the side of transmission. Years ago I swapped a muncie 4 speed into my CJ5 and I had the shifter come throught the floor in that general area. Mine was a little more reward and closer to transmission.

It’s either a Muncie or Saginaw car trans. Muncie will be aluminum case and Saginaw is iron.

Could be. It just wasn’t as common of a swap as the Muncie and Saginaw.

That's the instrument voltage regulator. When they changed from the King-Seely cluster to Stewart-Warner in mid '57 the regulator got incorporated into the fuel gauge.

Thank you! As an aside, will it be in any way possible to use this cluster if I am switching from 6v to 12v? I know the bulbs will need to be replaced. Is there a different voltage regulator needed? Anything else?

Assuming it's working now it should work OK. Some people like to put a pre-regulator or a dropping resister in there "just in case". Do a search here it's been discussed before.

Just my two cents but I'm fine with my six volt jeeps - it works okay.

This Jeep was already semi-converted to 12v when I got it. The previous owner never finished the restoration, though they did a good job of taking it apart and leaving me scratching my head more than I usual. I have been somewhat tempted to revert it back to 6v. It would probably make things easier for me.

Also, thank you, Howard, for the info. I will search some more for sure. Sometimes I struggle to find the right keywords to search for.

Right. I believe the 3-spds were Saginaw, but the rare optional column shifted 4-spd was Borg Warner Super T10
