I've been contacted by someone who is the grandson of some folks who bought a Renegade I in early 1970 which was...

    Light yellow!

Pics are said to be coming soon.

That could be interesting since Light Yellow was not one of the 999 colors.

I wonder if there's anyway to track down the exact color?

It appears to be "Prairie Gold". I am the guy who sent the pics to Adam of my Grandfathers jeep. My cousin is the one doing the restoration work on it. He picked up a 1970 brochure at a local swap meet and matched up the color to the "Harvest Gold". The jeep was rolled in about 73 or 74 at the hands of my grandpa and then repainted in the beer bottle brown during the repair of that. We almost have video of the roll but Grandma's camera ran out of film about 20 seconds or less before the rollover.. you can see it go sideways on the hill and then the film runs out. The windshield was black along with the renegade stripes with the rest being harvest gold. If you guys have any more questions about it ask away.

Hey all,new member to ECJ5 but long time reader.I'm the one who inherited the yellow R1 and am doing a restoration on it. I have learned a lot just reading others post and thank you for that.As for the jeep it was definitely yellow or prairie gold as I've discovered. It looks like there were tags on the pass side as I can see some glue residue, unfortunately they are long gone.As I figure out the pic posting process I'll post photos as I have been taking many along the way.

I have a very stock original '70 R1 that is Hugger Orange. 21,000 miles so far. Brother gave it to me after buying it from a friend out of his back yard under a tarp. Since this picture was taken the day the tarp was removed I have installed a new black Bestop & replaced the wheels with correct Kelsey Hayes 15x8 steelies.

Boy this looks familiar. The one on the right is mine after I took it all apart. It was a '70 model, but not a Renegade. From the looks of it, they were the same color yellow. I guess covering up yellow with brown was catchy in the '70's

Wow! its been a while since i posted anything. Things have been progressing on the R1 in between side projects and work. had to do some floor repair replacement as well as the tail light panels on the body in preparation of getting it media blasted.

been working mostly on the frame and running gear. 1 crack was repaired near the steering gear box and then sand blasted and POR15 and top coat applied.

also got the axles torn down, cleaned and painted. then re-assembled with new seals bearings and brakes.

    now as a rolling chassis.

Also rebuilt the motor which was in good shape and ran when pulled but wanted to put new bearings and rings in as it sat for a while. also wanted to clean it up and paint "original" color. turned out pretty good i think.

Ya buddy, that's a project. Keep going! I started the electrical in mine in early summer, now I'm stumped. Not sure when we'll see the road together again.

yeah wiring, that's one I've been wondering about. The wiring in mine is a mess! when I got it it would start by the key but not shut off without stalling it. I want to use a harness from someone like Vintage Wiring of Maine or some such but i know there is a difference in them when it comes to the accessory gauges. Not sure what i would need to add. I pulled most of the harness "complete" to be able to trace the extra circuits but haven't got to wiring yet so haven't looked too deep. Hopefully you will get yours figured out soon as your R1 is one of my screen saver images and inspiration to get mine done. Thanks again for stopping by for me to get photos of the swingout.
