The '71 would do that periodically. Sticking lifters was part of the problem. I started substituting a quart of MMO with my oil changes, that helped.

IIRC, there is a 4 cyl brake pedal and a V6 brake pedal. The V6 pedal has more of a bend in it for clearance. No one makes new/replacement pedal...
