    My Prairie Gold 67' CJ-5

Found a treasure on Craigslist this week ! http://westslope.craigslist.org/ctd/3565054344.html
I don't know how this beauty got past everyone else on the western slope of Colorado!

This is right after I pushed it off the trailer. (no battery installed/ no gas)

I currently have only three projects going on:

Ground up build on my 63' B model,
My future daily driver 71'CJ-6 w/build thread on this site.
This week I started upholstering the seats on my 71' Ren. I

And I only have a 1 car garage.

So I thought I better get something to occupy a little of my spare time. I'm going to work on it right where it sits in the photo's, south side of the building
so it's actually warmer than in the garage, for the next month or so anyway.

You can see the only body damage in the previous photo, both front fenders were hit by the multi-angle blade of a snow plow at some time. People using short fenders for
    plowing snow makes me sad.
For all the poor unfortunates who live on the east coast,in the salt belt and any where else "the red menace" is prevalent. A couple shots to make you feel happy for me.
This is the tool box floor.

Tough to get a good shot but there's not a bit of heavy scale or rust thru.

    Pass.side wheel tub.

Rear floor, tailgate, barley even a scratch in the original paint.

The light spot in the center shows the only rust thru on the floor anywhere.

Driver side floor that's just snow, ice and mud no cancer.

Sorry the photo's don't show just how clean the floor is, the PO was trying to make this thing rust. Even though it has a great hardtop, he took it
off and put it in the weeds then left the Jeep to the elements for the year he owned it. The tub was full of snow and dirt so it looks worse than it really
is. If I get running tomorrow I'll go to the car wash and get started on it.

You should all know this thing isn't perfect. It has this massive rust thru on the pass. side kick panel brace.

    The factory spare tire mount.

    Pass. rear body mount brace.

    and the driver side.

    2 holes for 1 antenna.

Frame is spotless and not a crack in sight, but the front springs are shot from hauling a snow plow,
and how about this funky cut down and welded, wrap around rear bumper.

    Not too bad for

That's going to clean up nice. Hard to find one in that shape here on the East Coast. Good luck with it .

    Yeah Tarry
It is interesting I briefly (very briefly) considered playing around with it to have some kind of hydraulic winch, a friend was doing that on his 71' Ren. II about twenty years ago
but I am not all that knowledgeable about how to make it work. His worked off the power steering pump. I am obviously not going to plow with it so It's coming off.

    Rusty,
I believe it will clean up nicely also. I can't believe how clean this thing is underneath (2) spots on the hat channel have rusted thru, but the frame is just about spotless. I feel your pain about the rust in the east, it's a lot bigger commitment when the body and frame have so much cancer, but even here they're getting pretty scarce.

    Culls,
The taillights are not chrome just a trick of the light in the photos, but they do appear to be a different style than I'm used to. I don't have anything from the mid sixties
to compare them to though so probably not.
How about the hood lifts on each side by the latches?

    Or the eyebrow headlight rings?

Even the park light (there's only 1 left) seems a little different.

Those handles for the hood look like something you'd see on a boat.

Agreed, the hood handles don't look like something I've seen on any other jeep.

The park light and eyelid/eyebrow rings are all easily obtainable aftermarket pieces, at least from the '80s onward. I've seen them both at JC Whitney. Haven't seen many jeeps with eyebrow rings, though. I always thought they were more of a bug accessory.

Edit: Although I wouldn't knock the hood handle; there's been times when I could've used one on the Tux-in-a-barn. Course that was before I got the fenders off and tarp over its engine.

Snowed overnight so I didn't get too ambitious. My only spare battery was dead so I put the charger on it I'll try to start it tomorrow. I did crawl under it a little more
and finally found a crack in the frame. The plow frame was welded on the frame horns and the sag. conversion isn't very well done. The box is loose and cracked the
driver side in the usual place right on the rivets for the cross member. So I'm going to have to pull the fender and grill to grind the remainder of the plow frame off and
repair the crack. I found a 3 bolt power steering box plus pump and mount for a v-6 in the back of my 6 when I got it home so I'll fix the frame and put them on here.

I did want to share a few more pics of the interior. It is un believable how much work someone put into this thing!
Each side of the dash has an ashtray and lighter.

The whole dash is tucked and pleated, all riveted underneath.

I don't like a lot of junk on the dash, I'm not putting a single switch on the dash of my 6 as an example, but I'm going to leave this thing
just like it is minus the Checker cassette player of course, and a new wiring harness.

How about this switch panel? The pull switch bottom right was put in by the PO. It turns on the electric fuel pump.

    Padded upper section.

    Also riveted in place.

And last but not least the completely tucked and pleated headliner on the hardtop.

    With dome light.

    One of the corners.

    Again all riveted in place.

Most incredible, to me anyway, I found several old registrations in the glove box and under the fuel tank.
This beauty was originally sold in Steamboat Springs 10/67 to a man In the town where I and now this Jeep
currently live. He had it until at least 85' then a couple different owners, then a woman that I actually know owned
it. I'm going to look her up and ask her about it. She owned it until at least 04.
The most recent history, tags expired in 04 the PO traded a gun to his boss for it. The boss got it in trade to satisfy a debt.

Someone removed the locking hubs, axle shafts and diff cover from the front end and no one knows why or where the parts
ended up, at least the two PO's got it this way. The r&p look alright so maybe for fun I'll put it back together and see what happens.

Awesome find! It looks like a fun project with great components (OD, V6, Koenig hard top). I have a 66 I am restoring and am mounting a plow on it. I still need to fabricate a mounting bracket for my hydraulic pump. The existing bracket is for the 4 cylinder and I am adapting it for my V6. Since you are removing your plow hydraulics, do you have any interest in selling them? It would save me the time of adapting mine to the V6. I am in Longmont area.

I forgot to mention, I have a Dana 27 with 4.88 from a 1970 CJ5 I would be happy to trade for the plow hydraulics. But it only has one good lockout hub.

I like the mirrors myself. I haven't ever sat in the driver's seat yet so I don't know If they're functional or not.
Unfortunately the drivers side is broken, but I am going to try to save it and leave them on.

That is a great looking truck, I love that early FSJ grill.

I had mirrors like that on my meyers when I first got it and I liked them. They vibrated less than the "one-armed" mirrors. Problem is, if you wanna go "doorless" you have no mirrors. Long & Low, that is an awesome truck!

    Billywam,
The pump is actually a mercedes benz power steering pump so I am going to leave it on. I will just save the one in my garage in case I ever get another Jeep project, anyway without even knowing you I can almost guarantee you could do a better job building a mount than this one. The actual mount and pivot are quite simple but the belt tension arm is a cobbled mess. It hasn't stopped snowing since I got it home so I haven't worked on it yet. I am removing the rest of the plow accessories and as much as I hate to see them used on a shorty I can be persuaded to sell them.
I have 3 matched sets of 44/27 (2 flanged, 1 tapered) axles so no need for another. I do have the PO looking for the originals though I mean I paid 800 bucks.
Another condition of the sale would have to include the promise to not do this.
This is the reservoir, not bad.

    BUT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

[IMG]That's the corner of the strengthening rib on the rear of the hood. Just to clear the lid on the tank. chainsawguy
Your first in line if your not in a hurry.
It's going to be a while before I remove them.

I used to cruise downtown Longmont in the 80's, me in my hot-rod B-model and my next door neighbor in his 69 ss 396 chevelle.
One of the all-time great cruises!
