I am looking for pictures of KNOWN 100 % positive Renegade slot mags. As in an original owner with verification. Every single picure on the Internet has a different style of wheel on it. I believe that the wheels should use a conical lug and not a mag lug with a washer. Also wondering if the original wheels had anything in the way of markings on the inside.

Talk to Wyomike, he is the original and current owner of a Renegade II.

There were at least two varieties of the forged alloys; D-slot and oval slot.
I have a set I took off an original Renegade (oval slots) over 30 years ago, but they are 1000 miles from me so no pictures. I do know they use regular tapered lug nuts.

I would assume these are correct, at least for 1971

I just did a search in my Parts Catalog (F-74073-R3) which covers the Kaiser years up through AMC to '73. This should cover both Ren l (R1) and Ren ll (R2).
I looked up Road Wheels (Section 8.270-1) and am only including Renegade applications.
15x7 Renegade (used with Spirit wheels) V8. 999-799
15x7 Renegade (used with Mag. Dish wheel) V6. 999-156
    15x8 Renegade V6. 994-733
    15x8 Renegade V8. 535-1727

Then to Attaching Parts, wheel to hub (Section 8-286-1)
Nut, acorn (Renegade-used with Mag. Dish wheels). 999-157
Nut, acorn (Renegade-used with Spirit wheels). 999-800
Nut, acorn (Renegade-used with steel wheels). 400-4067
Note: all other lug nuts are listed as "nut, hexagon" for non-Renegade Jeeps

    Then just for curiosity,
    Cover, wheel hub (Section 8.274-2)
    (Renegade-non Mag type). 948-631

I don't know if this answers questions regarding Renegade wheels, or furthers the debate.
Does anyone know what a "Spirit" wheel is? (Possibly the oval slot alloy?, or perhaps a steel "wagon wheel"? (Anyone got some Renegade advertising brochures from '72/'73 to confirm?)
There were apparently at least two different acorn lug nuts, depending on the style wheel, not including those for the KH steel R1 wheels.
It is also interesting that there is a differentiation for V6 and V8 for wheels. Are the V6 "Mag. Dish" wheels the earlier D-slot (possibly late R1), and the Spirit wheel what we know as the more common R2 oval slot, introduced with the AMC 304 powered Renegades?
Can I assume that the later the part numbers, the higher numerically?
I see no description in the Parts Catalog listing washers with the acorn lugs, so can we assume they were all tapered seat lugs?
Maybe there was only 1 Renegade alloy, and the D-Slots were all aftermarket, even though I think I recall advertisements with them?
This research has only confused me more!

Thanks Donny. There must have been a few different sets of these things over the years. I am having a difficult time coming up with solid information.

Are those part numbers stamped on the wheel? That would be good to know

Renegade I were Kelsey Hayes steel wheels, 15X8 IIRC. Renegade II was the D-Slot aluminum. I am pretty sure there were never any Renegade II oval slot aluminum. Oval slots are post Renegade II (1971).

Pretty sure the above 1971 picture is of sausage slots. See how confusing all the information is?

Nope, the picture of the 3 Renegade IIs show D slot rims. Click on the image below to go to Photobucket and zoom in. I have a Photo of WyoMike's Ren II and they are also clearly D slots. I assume you are refering to the oval slots as sausage slots? I don't remember anyone posting first hand knowledge of oval slots on an original Renegade II.

Well, after reading Zoomer's post, my lack of knowledge shows. I was thinking R1 were the short fender V6 Jeeps, and R2 were the AMC V8 powered from '72-'74. As it is, those are both versions of the V6 short fender Jeeps.
This fact may help determine that there are, in fact, two "Renegade" alloy wheels; one being the D-slot for the early Renegades, and the other being the oval slot (Spirit?) of the AMC V8 Renegades. My earlier post about having a set of original oval slots, I didn't disclose that these came from an original owner '73 model. They are Renegade wheels, just not the earlier D-slot variety. There are still a lot of similar slot alloys out there that use shanked lugnuts with washers. Are these all aftermaket wheels?
It is also interesting that there are two 15x8 steel wheels. The earlier version has to be the KH type used on the R1. Is the second part number a welded version to clear larger brake drums, or is it a wagon wheel (used by AMC on later Renegade models)? I have seen welded (as opposed the riveted) 15x8 wheels that otherwise look identicle.

At this point I think many Jeep dealers just bought Mags from the local tire shop as spruced up their lineup. This picture also disproves the internet myth that Renegades came with Warn locking hubs from the factory.

Not sure where you are getting your information or internet myths Daryl.... :)

If you are wanting to know the equipment of Renegade I and Renegade II Jeeps, the following is from the technical article that used to be hosted here on ECJ5.com:

    Renegade I Colors
There are four colors of Renegade I that I have now been able to document, now maybe five.
    • Hugger Orange (Davis, 1970)
    • Green
    • Purple
    • Sierra (?) Blue (Abrams, 2009)
    • Light Yellow (Carter, 2010)
1970 Renegade I Package Options List
    • Kelsey-Hayes 15×8 inch steel wheels
    • Oil and ammeter gages mounted to the left of the steering column
    • Padded dash
    • Roll bar with padding
    • Limited slip differential
    • Heavy duty spring package1
    • Racing stripe on sides of hood with “Renegade I” in reverse2
    • Later Renegade Is had a center stripe like a Renegade II
    • V-6 225 engine
    • Driver side rear view mirror3
    • Padded sun visors
    • Two tone seats4
    • Passenger and rear seat (don’t laugh, passenger seats were considered an option back then)
    • Oil pan skid plate
    • Rear mounted spare on swing away tire carrier6
Original Paperwork for a late 1970 or 1971 Renegade I
Mike Davis was kind enough to share his original purchase paperwork with us for his Hugger Orange Renegade I. These are available as PDF files.
    Renegade I Wiring Diagram
T.R. Yelton created this wiring diagram of the Renegade I which is different from a “normal” V6 CJ-5 due to additional gauges.

    The 1971 Renegade II Package

An ad from Kaiser for the 1971 CJ-5 Renegade II. 4x4review.com has a large, 2415x1394px image available for download as well, if you Google for "Renegade II".
    Renegade II Colors
There is a good bit of confusion among enthusiasts about the colors offered on the Renegade II. Most commonly acknowledged are the colors shown in the above photo. But there are also reports of the package being available in Plum and Blue (Marski 2003). In his book, The Story of Jeep, Patrick Foster writes that the Renegade IIs were available in the first four colors, two colors of orange, the yellow and green; production numbers are from Foster (1998). Paint code for all colors is 999.
    • Baja Yellow (200) (Foster 1998)
    • Mint Green (200) (Foster 1998)
    • Riverside Orange (50) (Foster 1998)
    • Big Bad Orange (150) (Foster 1998)
    • Sierra Blue (Marski 2003)
    • Plum Metallic (Marski 2003)
The colors were to commemorate wins at Baja, Riverside and the Mint 400.

WYOMIKE's Renegade II he purchased new in 1971.
    Renegade II Package Options List
    • Aluminum alloy wheels7
    • H78-15 Goodyear Polyglass Suburbanite tires (Harkins, 2008)
    • Oil and ammeter gages to the left of the steering column
    • Padded dash
    • Roll bar with padding
    • Limited slip rear differential
    • Heavy duty rear spring8
    • Charcoal colored racing stripe with Renegade II in reverse on side of hood and charcoal hood blister
    • V-6 225 engine
    • Driver side rear view mirror2
    • Padded sun visors
    • Two Tone seats4
    • Passenger and rear seat (don’t laugh, passenger seats were still considered an option a year later)
    • Fixed rear mount spare with a fixed panel tub, no tail gate
    • WYOMIKE has confirmed, a 22 inch two-core HD radiator came stock on his Renegade II, though this has been pointed out that the 22 inch two-core HD radiator was an option on the V6 CJ-5.
Thanks to all the members of the Early CJ-5 and Dauntless V6 Forum that contributed to this page, especially WYOMIKE, org1970cj5, and dnb5853 for the photos of their respective Renegades.

Early CJ-5 Renegade hood stickers are available from Golden Eagle Decals
Early CJ-5 Renegade hood stickers are also available here Phoenix Graphix
Frank Sanborn, fellow Jeep owner offers them, mailt:fsanborn@cablespeed.com, I’ve met Frank and purchased a 1/2 cab from him and will say you can’t do business with a nicer more helpful guy.
    1. Standard V-6 was ten Front and five Rear, RI had 12 Front 13 Rear.
    2. Early RI’s did not have charcoal hood blister, the last RI’s titled as 1971 model year Jeeps appear to have had this feature.
    3. Some were round, some were rectangular.
    4. here, other options were apparently available through the dealers such as these diamond tuck seats
    5. here , note the bracket for the carrier to attach to on the left.
    6. Two kinds were plied, American Racing may have been the source for them, picture of what is thought to be the Renegade II style, the later (Intermediate?) Renegade wheels had more of an oval and less “D” shape slot.
    7. Standard V-6 was ten front leaves, five rear leaves. The RII had 10 front leaves, 12 rear leaves

I have a few pictures of a 1970 R1 in light blue that my dad bought new if anyone is interested? The pictures are from when the jeep was about a year or two old.
