What was the function of the vent in the cowl? Does it vent the inside of the Jeep? Should it go to a heater box? What should open and close it? The P.O. took out the heater so I have nothing to go by.

Are you maybe referring to the battery box cover?
If you have a cowl vent, somebody added it.

Unless you are driving a pickup or station wagon.

Hmmm I wonder. It is on the passenger side and the cover is about 2 1/2" X 8". I will take some pictures tomorrow.

Now that we know the vent has been added, does anyone recognise it. Whoever added it did a clean job.

Need to see a picture - but generic vents are available, as used on commercial vehicles like Gruman vans.

That vent is very similar to a Willys wagon/truck cowl vent, but I think it's only similar and not actually from one. It is hard to tell though for sure since it has been added and didn't come that way from the factory. I will measure mine for outside dimensions of the lid for comparison.

The lid on my vent measures 4" x 14". That's weird that Pete can't see those pictures. o_O

The OP probably needs to share the images in his gallery settings.

Staff Members can see un-shared images (guessing).
