Just talked to and emailed US Wheels, trying to find a 16” wheel option. A plain, paintable steel wheel is available in the right bolt pattern and center hole, but it is a 16 x 7 with a 4” backspace. That backspace is gonna be a bit big, no? Here is the convo:

    US Wheel responded
“I asked my guys and the only option would be the Rat RodUS Wheels - Rat Rod (Series 69) . That is the only wheel with the 4.28 center bore you need. The backspace can only go to 4 inches. 16x7 size.”

Looking for a wheel that is:
    1) paintable steel
    2) 16” by 6” (Preferred) or 7“
    3) backspace 3.5“ to 3.75”
    4) center hole minimum 4.25” to clear Warn Hubs (front)
    5) 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern

Can you help a Jeeper out?

4" backspace on a 7" wide wheel should be fine. Many aftermarket wagon wheels (7" & 8") back in the day had 4" backspace. I haven't used 4" backspace on a wide track 150, but you should be able to estimate how it would fit based on a typical 3 3/4" backspace 15" rim.

Thanks, it had 31x10.50 15’s on it, but it wasn’t assembled, so I have no idea how they fit. It looked good, but everything was just set together for the haul home. This seems like a decent looking wheel option for a tall skinny 16

A 235/85R16 would fit real nice on a 7" wheel. 31-32" diameter and available in just about any tread pattern you'd like.

A 215/85R16 is pretty close. About the same height and between 1/2" to 1" wider.

I think you'd be happier with the radials

On my FC-170, I started with 7.50X16 tires with an "8 ply" rating. A pair of needle nose pliers found their way into one of the front tires (!?) and I ended up replacing both front tires that had a "10 ply" rating.

The "stronger" tires, when inflated to the full 80psi, (in my opinion) greatly improved the steering.

I don't know how much of this would apply to the '150, but I thought I'd at least mention it.

That must have rode absolutely terrible with 80psi in the tires? I imagine steering was greatly improved tho, you probably only had about an 2" contact pattern in the center of the tread at 80psi.

When empty, the ride is....just...a...bit...rough.....It's not quite to the point where I need to visit a kidney specialist every 100 miles...but close. :)

I made the discovery when I put the tire pressure up to 80psi to take several loads of dirt to the "dirt factory". On the way home I noticed how much better the steering was at 80psi than it had been at 50psi.

If I remember, I'll check the tire patch (water in front of the driveway trick) when I pull the 170 out of the garage.

yeah, that's the trade off. When you go super high like that on the psi, the ride suffers. Dropping the psi makes it harder to steer because you gain more contact patch with the road.

It, both, made the steering wheel easier to turn as well as made the steering "feel better"...with better being along the lines of "not feeling like the steering system is worn out".

I still haven't decided if the improved steering is worth the rough ride.... :)

my tires came in, but i dont want the walmart wrenchers to touch my truck. afraid they would tip it off the lift, strip out the lefty tighty wheel studs, etc.
i called pomps, our local tire place.
me: hey, will you guys put on tires for me? its a 59 jeep fc150
them: sure, not a problem. come on in, we have time.

so, i brave the ryder cup traffic in my 45mph rig, get to pomps, start filling out the paperwork, the guy goes hold on! we walk outside, he mean mugs my jeep for a couple minutes, finally i say what gives?
him: are you going to sign a waiver?
    me: what? why?
well, what if i damage the rims?
they are steel rims, how are you going to damage them?
them tires are pretty old, i may have to use a sledge hammer to get them off?
what? how does that make any sense? why would that thought even cross your mind?
are you willing to sign a waiver?
no, im willing to go somewhere that will put my tires on my jeep. sheesh. i jumped in my fc and left.

Two pieces of equipment I WILL own before I die: a tire machine and a dynamic balancer. It’s getting to the point where having tire work done is such a crap shoot, the machinery will pay for itself by avoiding one shop’s screwup.

    Good on you for walking.
