I am planning on the power steering upgrade on the CJ2a.
I have done this swap a few times on early CJ5s, but the flatty is new to me.
First thing I noticed is the frame past the tube crossmember is very shorter than the CJ5 and i have to place the mount way forward.
My biggest question is what are you doing with the radiator mount tab on the crossmember if you notch the crossmember for the intermediate shaft between column and gear box?

Do you have any pictures of how your intermediate shaft setup?

    thanks

I've done it multiple times on the flatties, but I traditionally swap out the crossmember. I mount my box higher, so want a clean punch through the crossmember for the steering shaft. Even when I do a manual box, I size it so I can put a power box in later.

Have you had problems with the radiator mounts or you jsut recreated them with the new crossmember and they are generally in the same location?

I remount them on the new crossmember - I'll see about getting pics of a couple options in the next couple days. Its 'snowing' pretty hard right now - and while we need the moisture :banghead:

Thanks for the pics. Looks like you did a body lift. if so, how much of a lift did you add?

It's about 1 1/2 - 2" body lift. I like to do that as it makes hood clearance a non factor. It also keeps the center of gravity down close to the frame and allows you to run larger tires without such a spring lift (Holbrooks on the '50 and 1 1/2" lift springs on the '49). The radiator in the '49 is an old flatty radiator.

Thanks for the reply. I planned on about a 1 1/2" lift for clearance of the F-134 motor and tire clearance. It also gives a little more room to get to the bell housing bolts, ETC. I will be installing swing pedals and Sag steering which will be a plus for the 2A.

Did you guys get what you need? I can try to get some pics now that the snow has melted. You can also look at my '63 build. I put a larger cross member in there, but mostly the same way I do on the flatties.
