Well I have all but given up on finding a good used windshield frame for my intermediate 74. looked at 4 used ones for sale around and none of them are in much better shape than mine.
So I have decided to try a questionable quality after market one. I have read all the reviews and heard horror stories about them not fitting and the glass opening being too big or too small, bolt holes being not lined up and so on. My question is omix or crown? which one is the lesser of the two evils, anyone with personal experience working with both brands? Thanks Jim

I am going to guess, there is only one manufacture of the windsheild frame. Crown or Omix are buying them from the manufacture, putting there part number on them and selling them. I would look at which one has better return policy if you have problems or is closer to make returning easier.

X2. I would not be suprised if they are not all made in the same factory in china or somewhere. Just like the fuel tanks, different suppliers and brands all use the same photo and mfg part number but different prices.

Thanks but I have not. Very unlikely any one will have one within driving distance, shipping would be difficult and expensive for something that large. I would want to see it before I bought it anyway. Also I did see a really nice one for sale but when I looked up inside the tube frame it was rusted very badly, looked so rusted pitted inside I was supprised it was not rusted thru to the outside yet but looked good on the outside. So would be likely never find one I trusted. I think the orignal factory frames were not rust proof coated at all especially on the inside.

Been there...my only flaw was the glass opening. Had a glass cut to the original dimension and wasnt able to fit in there. Finaly the glass shop made one with the windsheild i had.

I have had that experience, and it was with two original frames, one was a half inch too small for my frame. :banghead:
So even when you have an original frame it is not always the same size, old guy at the glass shop said that Jeeps are very inconsistent for glass size, best to take the frame in and get it cut to size. (y)

Ah, I never knew that ,I just assumed they were fairly consistant if they were from the factory. Learn something new here every day. When I get a new frame I will be needing a new glass anyway, my old glass is really fogged around the edges. I found a glass shop that can custom cut laminated glass.
