Well, here ya go guys! Sparky, feel free to take this info and post this in the tech section...
All Renegade Wheels will be 15x7, and they are Forged Aluminum. They will have the word "FORGED" cast into the backside of the wheel. I am still trying to determine part numbers, but my parts book lists #5352817 for 1974 and 1975. The two NOS wheels I have have #3659714, and the guy I got them from said they were NOS from 1973. One odd wheel I have has #3659509, but I don't know what year it is from. I haven't pulled the wheels off my Jeep yet to see what number they are, but all 8 wheels I currently have are identical, regardless of part number. In the pics of the NOS wheels, you can see the spoke pattern on the back side, and the mounting flange. On the front you can see the shape of the holes, and the lip between the dish of the wheel and the center around the lug holes that also helps identify a Renegade wheel. One other positive identifier of these wheels is the fact that they use a regular conical seat lug nut, and NOT a shank type like many aftermarket wheels. The valve stem on these wheels also exits inside one of the ovals in the wheel, not on the inside of the rim. I hope this helps, and I will post more info as I discover it.

 

So how about it everyone, do you think these are authentic forged Jeep parts? The owner can't find numbers on them, and I'm not sure he is able to see them, even if they are there!
This style of wheel isn't too hard to find. Actually I have let 2 sets go, in hopes of finding something cleaner. Thanks for any help offered!

If the D-slot Renegade II wheel was only offered in 1971, then why do I see (what apppears to be) the same wheel on these 1974 publicity shots?!

Old thread I know. I was looking into the old slot rims and the D-slots on the '74 ad puzzled me as well.

Also, on the D-slots the lugs are centered between the slots correct? On the oval slots they are centered with the slot holes.

 

I have a 1975 Renegade and the lugs are centered with the slots. I looked at the part number on each wheel and they are all different! (I didn't look at the spare.) The numbers are: A17011, 3910934, A17097 & A08910. The Jeep is a late production model - June 1975. I am 100% sure these are the wheels that came with the jeep new, I bought it from the original owner who bought it new in October 1975. (The spare has the original surburbanite on it.) Doug

 

Let's keep her going! I bought four rims, look like ovals to me, but three are A04930 and one is A04931. They're going on my '71 Renegade II. The white wagon wheels are coming off and will be for sale at some point.

 

Ok, so I just picked up a set of 5 D-slots and here are some pics. The guy said they came off of a '73. I know Jeep pretty much used whatever was on the self that day, and as dnb5853 pointed out, the '74 ad shows the same d-slots that I have. :?



I guess now I'll have to get a Renegade to go with the rims once the '74 resto is complete.

 

These real jeep wheels?



I have two, they have A13567 inside one and A13530 in the other. Both have Goodyear Suburbanite's on em.
Any ideas what year they may be from?

 

I believe they are of the 75 to 76'ish era of Jeep slots. I just sold a set exactly like that.

 

My barn find 1971 Renegade II has the American Racing D slots as shown in the above in post #8. As I understand it they used this wheel into '73 and would not be surprised to see them in the '74 production advertising as that photo was probably taken in 1973. Soon after that the the oval slot or "sausage slot" , as I call them, came out on the regular production run of the Renegade models. As far as I'm concerned the D- slot is the most rare Jeep wheel around aside from the solid steel wheels that came on a VEC 2A.

 

I picked these up today for $325 for 5 rims. The gentleman said they came off his 76 cj5 with about 40,000 miles on them.

 

Any vintage slot is as cool as it gets.

 

Nice Score! I am still looking for a set for my Jeep. I have a set of slots on my 68 ford truck but they are not in that great of shape and they are use the shank style lug nuts which I do not like.

 

Has anyone had trouble with wheel weights for the slot mags? I have a set of 5. Looking at mine I see no wheel weights present. Getting ready to mount 33 X 10.50 X 15 BFG MT. How do you attach wheel weights if you need to on these old school slot mags?

 

I had them use the pellets inside the tire. Love 'em!

 

The stick on wheel weights work fine.

 

I use the tape weights on my 68 ford. The idiots at firestone tried to use regular weights once. I did not catch it before i left and in just a couple of miles of freeway speed several of them let go and hit the wheel well. I hope none hit any cars.

 

Thanks for the replies. Anyone know where I could find appropriate lug nuts for the old school slot mags? Not sure what kind of lug nuts are original.

 

Hi Jarrett, They normally take a shouldered nut with a specific OD shoulder that fits the bore of the hole in the wheel and then of course the right thread size...........I would suspect that a lot of old manufactures used similar sized lug nuts......no reason to re-invent that. Measure the size of the OD of the bore in the wheel and the depth of the shoulder and also get the thread size..............make some phone calls to current wheel manufactures and see where they lead you........also if there is any old tire wheel and brake shops in Sacramento.......the guys I knew down my way had boxes of old chrome lug nuts both new and used that were saved.......Might get lucky or at the least may send you in the right direction.
