    Hello.
    I've got a 64 cj5 with. A recently rebuilt solex carb.
My issue is once at half throttle it breaks up bad!
And for the life of me I can't figure out why?
I've checked damn near everything I can think of.
It idles perfect off idle is smooth choke works no vac leaks and the entire ignition system is new.

Any ideas what else I can check?

New condenser? I had the same symptoms and it was a bad condenser.

Yeah, new ignition doesn't mean good necessarily. Who rebuilt the carb? Is the ignition electronic or points and condenser?

There you go. Always check the newest thing first. Most carb problems are electrical.

"choke works." It was my understanding that the solex does not have a real choke.

It has a "fuel enrichment" instead of throttling the air intake.

I'll check the condenser, I rebuilt the carb on this jeep.
I have done quite a few but this one has stumped.
    The jeep sat forever.
It would not idle and the accelerator pump was half bad.
But I could get it to go past half throttle and it didn't start breaking up until after the rebuild. That's why I figured carb issues.
And correct on the no ckoke part.
It is air inrichment that part works fine

Describe breaking up. Does it simply stumble? Does it run erratic, not fully rev, cough and sputter, or?

When it gets to half throttle it won't rev, sort of breaks up and stumbles.
I replace the condenser and no change.
Tmimg and idle speed set corectly

Have you tried using the "choke" when it starts to stumble? See if that seems to help? Just try it slowly to see how it acts.

I assume your Jeep has the F-134?

In what part of Tennessee are you located?

    Yes and maynardville tn.
I wish I could find a good used old stock carb.
They just seemed simpler to me

The YF is hands down a better carb., but they too can be finicky yet more straightforward easier to diagnose and get working properly. Diagnosing a Solex over the internet is a crap shoot.

I see a rebuilt Carter YF in the forum classifieds, or you could place a WTB if you want a core to rebuild yourself.

I prefer the Carter YF over a Solex, but many people get good service out of the Solex. They are simple and work well when right.

What a coincidence, I just replaced my carb with a Solex, too. It idles perfectly, but stales out after half throttle. I'll let you know if I figure it out

Oh please do! Did you replace the original carb?
    With this one?
What was wrong with the old one?

I wonder if this is fuel pressure related?

My thought too. If the Jeep has a mechanical fuel pump there is a spacer that should be used with the Solex, if it has an electric pump a pressure regulator is probably a good idea.

Mine is electric pump with a psi regulator set to 1.5

Still breaks up at half throttle.
I've tried choking it off with my hand to richen it and causing a vacuum leak to lean it out neither had any effect.

Have you drained the fuel bowl to see how much fuel is actually in there?

My jeep stopped running. It had spark so I thought it would be a good time to do some preventative maintenance. I replaced the fuel (it had been in storage over the winter), the fuel filter, the fuel pump and the carb. I have a mechanical fuel pump so I will double check for a spacer. That sounds like it could be the issue in my case. Thanks!
