I looked into this purely as an intellectual exercise-

    http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/145810/page-3

It's simple enough and the chips are multi section so there could be built in redundancy but the automotive rated parts are only available in surface mount versions which makes limited assembly a PITA. But you guys are welcome to the spice file if you want it.

Ah, my mistake. I had seen the other TBI kits using custom ECMs and thought this one was the same. In that case a software fix wouldn't make sense. Sorry for the tangent.

    Sending you a PM

A quickie update, for what it's worth.....talked to a local Jeep guru, Chris Fitzpatrick Offroad nearby in Riley Twp Michigan. He's throwing the bat signal out for an engine to serve as a guinea pig. Much rather do it that way, instead of pestering people here to volunteer their custom made unicorn part. We shall see how it goes....

    good afternoon,

    I have a 1966 225 v6.

has there been any resolution as to building a template for a crank trigger bracket for installation to the front of the harmonic balancer?

    thank you
    Brian

Still in the works. A volunteer stepped up to offer dimensions and trial fit a prototype when it's made, but he had a setback and might be a while before he's available again. It'll happen, just not sure when yet. - Dan

While I’m not a player with the oddfire I want to thank you for pursuing this. I know only too well how much time and effort goes into things such as this.

A quickie update: should be taking a prototype to have dimensions finalized and a test piece hammered out soon, so things are finally moving along. How pretty does everyone want it to look? :D

    X2 on Sturdy.
I'ld expect a toss it on the motor now low build black.
Maybe stainless so you don't have to deal with having it painted. Faster turnaround and the painted cost of steel typically puts it in the same price range.

It'll be steel and 3/16" thick, and plated for decent corrosion resistance. Titanium sounds yummy, but I'm sure there would be plenty of cussing when the price is mentioned. Might help on fuel mileage from the weight savings though...(insert eye roll here).
Then again, I've been looking for excuses to use the powder coater on something lately. Hmmmm.....

I just took everything to the fab shop earlier today, nothing here to take a photo of at the moment except a few cardboard guesses I made before an actual homemade piece showed up. Those aren't pretty enough to waste digital film on. If it helps, think of Rube Goldberg with a laser cutter.

No chance of aluminum for the bracket and of course steel for the wheel?

I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible since the price of materials has gone through the roof the last few years. Has to be able to at least pay for itself on the manufacturing end, and as small a hit to customer's wallets as possible. I thought of aluminum, but considering there's a sharp 90 degree bend in the bracket, the vibration from the engine, and that I'm trying to keep the size of the thing to a minimum to stay as far out of the way of anything else on the engine, steel is probably the best. Aluminum would have to be pretty thick, since there isn't a lot of material around the sensor end. Vibration and metal fatigue was my concern. It would look great but cost a lot more than steel as well. I was worried about the steel affecting the magnetics of the sensor, but it's pretty well shielded so it shouldn't be an issue. As for the crank damper ring, there's nothing I can do about that. It's steel from the factory. As long as it's mounted solid to the engine (maybe rubber insulated?) and doesn't wobble, there shouldn't be an issue. When I get the initial test piece back, I can post an ugly pic if requested, but it probably won't be finish plated like the production pieces will be.

I would suggest having the bracket nickel/chrome plated. I happen to know a shop that does that!
As far as the powdercoating option, make sure the powder coater uses a good cleaning/primer before applying the powder. Zinc phosphate under the powdercoat gives great adhesion. There are many examples of aftermarket parts failing once rust gets a foothold under the powder layer.
    I am following this intently.:drool;

The powder coat comment was a half-joke. We can do it, but wouldn't be a 'professional' job. We mainly use it for in-house pieces here and there. It would also add a bit too much time and expense.
