    OK slight depression.

My frame is a CJ5 my body is a CJ2A the jeep has been this way since before 1961. The PO my Dad bought the jeep from was a local farmer and he did some half assed things to build this jeep.

So In the process of restoring it to the way it was when I drove it in High School and a few improvements I have been working to correct these half assed things.

One of those things was the left motor mount. The CJ5 frame uses a different motor plate then the 2A does.

I managed to get a complete set of body mounts and engine mounts cut off of a 2A frame being scrapped out. To replace things like this Left motor mount.

Well yesterday in my grinding rivet frenzy I removed this cobbled up left motor mount. The PO has just grafted the top half of the 2A mount on to the 5 mount.

So tonight while picking up my tools I held the 2A mount next to the frame (it's still riveted to a short section of the 2A frame so I can't slip it in place yet)

WELL a BIG problem seams the 5 frame is about 3/8" deeper then the 2A frame So I'm going to have to figure out how to widen the 2A mount. Then 5 mount is no longer usable. So going back is not an option.

I guess there are some differances between the 2A frame and the 5 frame besides the rear section being longer and the square cross member. The newer frame is deeper though the channel. Stronger I guess. But currently a problem to solve. e worry LOL

At the risk of oversimplification, could you just weld the '2A mount onto a flat piece of 3/8" plate and then weld or bolt that plate onto the '5 frame? Where there's a welder, there's a way! ;)

    cut your way in..
    weld your way out........
unless you were trying to be as stock as possible, fabing a mount should be relatively easy, as mentioned above

Actually after calming down a little last night I managed to find a super simple way to be able to mount the 2A mount to the 5 frame with a pc. of 3/8" x 1.5" angle iron welded in place of the bottom mounting surface of the mount. The modification will only be seen from underneith and should be as strong as needed. I have added a couple of photo's to show how I intend on making the mount fit.

In the photo the 2A left motor mount bracket is still attached to a section of the frame it came from I haven't seperated the two or done any clean up yet.

The 3/8" dimension is approx. I will wait until I have the part mounted (or temp mounted ) to the top of the rail and all lined up before I measure the exact measurement needed. And will most likely have it tack welded in place with it all lined up just to be sure. Then once that is done Brian (my buddy with the magic welder) can finish welding it on the bench and do a real nice job as he does with everything.

As to trying to remain stock. That really isn't applicable cause a 2A body with a 3A winshield on a modified CJ5 frame ain't ever going to be stock. I just want as clean of work as possible. I'm so tired of looking a Willys jeeps that have been so cobbled up over the years with extra brackets hacked off parts rewelded parts and damage repaires that look like they were done in the middle of some hay field by a 15 year old farm kid and a portable wleder using bailing wire are rod.

I'm not trying to build a street rod out of a Jeep but I like clean work and I want this to show I know what I'm doing.

Should't you just need a set of cj-5 f-head mounts and engine bolt plates? The front of the block is the same IIRC.

well actuall the mounting plate on the front of my 134L head is different then the mounting plate on a later F head. They changed the plate to allow more room for the later vacum assist fuel pump used on 3B's and 5's. The left ear points forward not back as it does on the earlier jeeps.

And while I could hunt down one of these later plates and then find a replacement 5 left side motor mount bracket (as the origional was totally messed up by the PO who welded part of a 2A mount bracket to it. And when I removed it I finished the job of totally ing it out.

The cost to find both new/replacement parts greatly out weigh being able to make a simple modification to the mounting bracket I currently have and use what I have.

I did some more trial fitting today and see that the additional angle iron piece will end up having a slanting side on the short side so it will be best if this piece is designed in place once I have the 2A motor mount bracket free from the old frame chunk it is currently attached to and the lower mounting flange section of it cut off. I can tehn just lay the piece of 1.5X1.5 angle iron over the corner of the frame rail and hange the motor mount where it belongs and scribe a mark across the point where the two parts meet and then cut the angle iron this should give a nice clean joint for my friend to weld.
