    Hello early CJ5 community,
Ya'll have been extremely helpful in the past so I've got a question I need some input on. I have a 1973 CJ-5 with a sealed tailgate. I am about to put it up for sale and noticed the SSR&O # on the VIN plate. I was wondering if there was any additional info that could be ascertained from this number or the Vehicle Identification Plate.
    || Thanks guys (and girls) ||

1973, 3 speed, left hand drive, made in Toledo. CJ5, open body, 3,750lb GVWR, 304 V8. Serial number 67,136. Paint code 492, Jetset Blue.

That's all I can do. I believe there's also an interior code, but pretty much all it would tell you is that you've got black vinyl buckets.

Have you decoded the VIN? J3 is Jeep 1973, F is Toledo 3-speed LHD, 83 is CJ-5, 5 is open body, T is standard GVWR (3750 lbs) and H is 304 V8. 67136 is the sequential serial number.

You also have the trim and paint; 492 is Jet Set Blue Poly (metallic) and 496 is the trim number. I don't have a parts book for 1973, but it's likely one of four combinations of black or buff vinyl, bucket or bench seat.

The SO (J518199) and SSR&O (D5596) numbers don't mean anything without the sales records to go with them. 9 is a Jeep factory internal number, 8300 is the Jeep model number, a CJ-5.

492 is definitly Jet Set Blue,

496 for the trim is Omaha Orange. Pretty interesting combination I must say!

(Just kidding, I have no idea what the 496 trim color is, but more than likely black)

Resurrecting an old thread. THAT IS A VIN TAG FOR A 1973 SUPER JEEP! Trim code D5596 is exclusive to the Super Jeep.

That's an SSR&O number (Special Sales Request and Order), not a trim number, if the '73 VIN tag conforms to later years. I have no book that covers the '73s, but subsequent years looked like this:

Jim Allen's short commentary on the Omix Ada Super Jeep is my source for the SSR&O D5596 being specific to the Super Jeep. You are correct, not a trim code, I mis-typed. But that is a Super Jeep tag if Jim's research is accurate. My Super Jeep tag is beside my computer at this moment (body is at paint).

So far, I have found two blue '73 Super Jeeps with that SSR&O number. Including the Omix Jeep. I would like to find a white one to confirm that the SSR&O number is the same. Sometimes different colors dictated a different number. I think I might have already figured this out, and did find the number were the same, but I didn't record that fact at the time and I try not to rely on memory. I WILL write it down from the next white Super I run across.

So far I've viewed four tags that seem to be legit Super Jeeps. Sequence numbers are:
    56886
    64185
    67136
    67516 (mine)

Only a few hunnerd more to go...
