Lockman........Just keep an eye on that heat.....especially if your driving it at speed or load for a while........the Riviera's had a pretty good sized engine compartment and still had a shield on the firewall......same with the early Skylarks...had a double wall piece of sheet metal......

Been a while since I messed with those motors........Rich condition.........could be a lot of things in those motors from the turbo underperforming ....or....could be injectors and there used to be some different flow rates available.......other than that your pretty much stuck with whatever the ECM program is telling the Ignition system and injectors........there is also a gamut of sensors and valves which could also make for a rich or lean condition.............If you still have the original ECM and harness , that might be where you may want to start , cause most of those old ones seem to have been all over the place.......most guys I knew had upgraded there ECM's to aftermarket and had custom harnesses made that eliminated most of those unwanted variables.........

Again Get on those Turbo Forums......lots of info there........you obviously want to connect with the guys that are still running the stock configurations.

Are you sure the "backfiring" isnt just the pop-off valve lifting? It DOES have a pop-off valve, doesnt it?

If your BOV is directly under the soot then probably that.

There is a padded foil thermal insulation sheet product used my sport car guys to keep heat away from stuff like air intake boxes or electronic boxes under the hood. Might look into that, cheap insurance against paint damage. Adhesive backed so cut to shape and apply.

Probably already know this but let your engine idle for a minute or two before shutting it off. Turbo is super hot when making boost, if you shut it off immediately after driving the oil in the turbo will coke up and eventually clog up and burn up your turbo. At idle its not making boost and will cool down while oil circulates through it.

Wow! that is pretty far away.....who ever stuck that motor & auto Tranny in there had to do some grill and radiator work to push that all forward.........normally the V6 valve cover on the Drivers side is almost touching the firewall.......

with a turbo 400 they needed the length for the rear driveshaft I would assume. an intermediate is longer out front than an early that helps.

Hello Sterlclan... My custom Frame goes from rear Channel to front Boxed ? I believe it's painted inside the boxed sections ? What do you suggest I use on these frame rails : Fluid film Or grease clean & use Raptor?
    Thanks in advance , Lockman
