Well when I was steering it to get it on the trailer only the front wheels turned. All the wheels rolled even with the flat tires.

The rear looks like it does not turn (in the pics). Never seen one that does not but can't figure out how that one would.

I,m sure all you guys already know this, but the instrument cluster looks identical to what Ford used in 1940-41 pickups and trucks. The silkscreening may have been a bit different though. On my deceased Grandfathers 1941 1 ton Ford the Waltham mfg. speedo has the shift speeds indicated on the speedo.(4 spd) Otherwise they look the samr to me. Should be a good source for a restoration. Oh Yeah, your thread sure has caused a lot of excitment, and rightfully so. Cam

Found some more info for you. :p Go get the October issue of "Off Road Adventures" from Four wheel parts wholesalers and turn to page 82.
The article says approx 50 out of the 1500 made had 4 wheel steering. It has a variation of the Fordson 9N tractor engine 119CI,28 hp, 84 lb-ft of torque. Instrument cluster borrowed from the truck line, shows a picture of the engine compartment of one In Huntsville AL at a Military History Center www.memorialmuseum.org. Prototypes were produced from 02/41 thru 11/41. Estimates are from 50 to 250 remaining GPs. Original price of $925 and can bring 30 to 40 times their original price!!!! WAY COOL DUDE!!! Sorry for the outburst. :stout: :stout: :flag: Heck, part that muther out and fund your current jeep restow.

AWSOME FIND! I would have needed a new pair of shorts if I came across that thing in the weeds! Dont part it out. In that right hands that thing can easily be restored. A skilled tinsmith could remake or repair any sheet metal needed. Remember these things were built in a time when car parts were built by hand. A art lost after WWII when stamping parts for mass production made them obsolete. I have seen CJs in much worse shape brought back to life. That is a sweet slice of Amrican history. I would LOVE to own something like that.

I agree. Don't part it out, that would be sacreligious. That tub can be saved. The most difficul section would be where "Ford" is stamped on the back end. But knowing Ford I am sure they already had the die from another application, ie: the tailgate of another pickup truck or the hood side of some trucks. You could search around a junkyard and cut that part off somthing else and carefully TIG it into your panel. Done right only you would know about it. The other major problem would be the carb. I wouldn't hold up the project just for that. Keep searching while you are doing the rest of the work. When it is done if you still haven't found one, sub something else so you can drive it and keep looking. Once you are driving it, who knows, maybe some old timer will come up and tell you about the carb he has for it. If you do have a price in mind, PM me I may be interested (but I gotta remember I am still married, and prefer to remain that way:) ) I am only about 250 to 300 miles from you. I think that you have a wonderful find and I envy you:stout: . Cam

Having an old timer that has the carb for it will be hard to do. The carbs are very rare and only used on the GP they are a holley 847-D I believe, however I have read that the solex carb works very well. Reproduction parts are also hard to get such as the gas tank, the floor pans are easy because for the most part they are flat metal. I would love to get this jeep and if the price was right I just might, but that would mean getting rid of my m38, which I should probably finish.

28 HP? Holy crap, no wonder the military liked the Go-Devil in the Jeep. I always wondered what the competition had.

Uh huh. Apparently the Bantam engine was no powerhouse either. The original Austin America engine was only 46 cid (~ 800 cc) and about 17 hp, though it was upgraded when used by American Bantam. I haven't found any descriptions of the hp ratings, but I'd guess they're still in that range.

The engines in the GP put out a whopping 45 hp and the same 118 ft/lbs of torque.
