Nope it was a different case IIRC but it was an offset rear deal. I can't remember the case, maybe Orion.

It really depends on who is shipping it - if it is labelled "warranty replacement" , "tractor parts", or "gift" then there is no duty to pay....

Get the one for the Landcruiser. It is about half the price of the (what looks to me to be the same one) listed for the F-Head
    134. Or a quarter of that if you get the second one shown.:tea:

ordered a ultima 16228 from oreillys online for $70 including shipping, and just put it in...took almost 3 hours total, had to get the top bolt started and in, had to pull a screw off of the starter to get a ratchet on it, and substitute a smaller bolt on the bottom to make it fit, but it mounts great turns the engine...great fix and better than spending a fortune on a cj starter.

Yes, that top bolt is H*ll, I used a rotary file in a drill to slightly enlarge the holes in the starter. Glad it worked......

I'm trying to figure out which ring gear I need for this. I got a F-head bellhousing to replace my L-head bellhousing. All I need now is the right ring gear, right?

    Should be.

We need a write up on this once you find the correct part numbers! :)

BTW- Rock Auto shows two starters, one is gear reduction and the other is not. The GR unit is almost double the price!

The non-gear-reduction unit is AC Delco PN: 3361262, that should give you a cross-reference to use at your FLAPS. :)

The CJ5 F134 starter used the 129 tooth ring gear part number 802925.

So I called O'Reilly's to see if they had one. They did indeed, Ultima Part #16224.

Most parts store counter guys these days, especially for the chain stores, only go by what's on the computer screen. I'm not sure if that's due to perceived liability issues or (more likely) because they aren't interested in those of us who mix and match. Every once and a while I run into someone who knows enough to look beyond the obvious but that's usually at a locally-owned place.

I'm thinking of trying the Toy starter on my F-head. I assume that's what you have in your '60 CJ5. Guys on here are usually pretty right on concerning what will fit and what won't. Just make sure you read the entire thread and understand the issues. From what I've read on this tread, it looks like that starter will work but takes a bit of an effort to get it installed.

Best of luck and let us know how it works out.

I can not express it enough......

I make notes in my service manual on parts that will work with my rig.

    I love this forum :)

This is cheaper than it cost me to have my starter rebuilt. Next time I know.

I bought a Toy starter yesterday but before I put it on, I set the valves (several were way too tight) and changed spark plugs. It now cranks and starts like it's brand new. This is a new experience for me. R) Go figure. I'll probably return the starter. $84 out the door or back in the door, whichever the case may be. :)
