Fuel Gauge Sender Unit Access Cover

I decided to install an access cover a while back, when I had to change my fuel gauge sending unit. Dropping the tank, is no fun, so I decided this was worth the effort....and it was!

I cut a 6" hole out of the tub floor, just above the unit. In retrospect, a 4" or 5" hole would have done the job, but having plenty of room to work doesn't hurt, either.

The disk I cut out was used as the cover. The mounting flange is made out of 3/16" thick aluminum, with drilled and tapped ( #10-32 ) around the outer edge ( to bolt to the tub ), and also in a circular pattern, to match the cover. I also painted it before installing.

Flat head stainless steel screws ( with Never-Seeze ) were used.

I have a fiberglass tub, which is easy to work with, but this can be done to a steel tub, also. You'd probably have to use pan head screws, instead, though.

Someday, I'll replace the screws with shorter ones, but I just used what I had in the shop, at the time.
