    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an AMC 20 rear axle, with 3.54 gears.

    I run 33" tires.

So naturally, my factory speedometer is off a bit.

Autometer makes a programmable speedometer. If this will work for me, I'll buy one, but I'm not positive that it will. That's because I don't understand some of the literature. Mostly the wiring part. I can pretty much see HOW to wire it, but there are some gray areas...

I'm hoping that some of you electronic whizzes will help me out.

    Here's the PDF instruction sheet...

    http://www.autometer.com/productPDF/1140.pdf

I would be using the one that hooks up to the 7/8" - 18 thread (Model 5291).

I have a D.U.I. HEI distributor, with a set of LiveWires. Are the LiveWires considered solid core?

There are 2 places in the back of the speedo to hook up the light. Will I be using the top hookup?

It looks as though the 3-wire sender screws onto my Dana 20 transfer case takeoff. I hope the .104 x .104 square drive key comes with the kit.

I'll probably end up calling the Autometer tech line, but I figures I'd throw it out here, first.

    Thanks for reading all this.

Yes it will work. I run an Autometer speedometer on my CJ with a Dana 20..

Speedometer does not care what distributer you are running. They are completely seperate systems. Did you mean tach?

For dash lighting you use the bulb on top in that diagram.

The key does come with the sender kit. Make sure you one you buy comes with the sender. I believe when I ordered mine the sendor had to be purchased seperately. But that was 5 years ago.

Use a GPS or borrow one to calibrate the Speedo.

    Thank you!

So, you have this setup? Did you end up with an accurate reading?

The reason that I mentioned the distributor (wires), is that the info sheet stated that these units cannot be used with soild core wires, and I don't know if I have those type of wires, or not.

I was asking about the speedometer, but there is confusion on the info sheet. They explain how to install a tach, instead of installing a speedometer.

So, with the programmable speedometer, and the 5291 sending unit, I should be good to go?

    That'd be great!!:driving:

    Thanks, again!

Yes it is very accurate. Verified with GPS.
I run a DUI HEI with the live wires as well on an autometer tach. No problems.

A long with a little wiring knowledge you should be good to go.

Here is how I did mine. I was rewiring the Jeep anyway. http://www.hudsonhawk.net/jeep/Dash.htm
