    My 1964 CJ5 Build...

I wanted to start this thread because I have a feeling by Monday I will have some significant pictures to upload and show at least some of my progress thus far.

    In short..

    I picked up a 1964 CJ5 Fhead in need of a body.
This simple $600 transaction spawned a month long search and acquisition of whole Jeeps and Jeep parts. Eventually leading me down the road of a complete frame up build.

    As the current plan stands...
I will be using the Chassis from a 1962 CJ5 fitted with v6 engine mounts. A project formally known around here as "SARGE" (Thanks Dude) and fitting it with a 1966 225 V6 acquired from a CJ6.

A steel body complements of BKD via Sunny California.

Axles (4:27) from the now 1964 Parts Jeep that is otherwise a good runner.

No performance mods or off-road goodies. Just looking to bring a solid reliable oil Jeep back into the world…

I definitely miss sarge, but I'm stoked that you have him. You are also the only jeep ever to have 3 grill isolators. Carry on!

well I got a bonus weekend... I thought I was going to be away, but my flights were canceled.. :)

I spent a few hours taking apart my F Head 64..
Im still waiting to get my hands on some engine parts before I mount the V6 in the frame. Hopefully I can get that accomplished next weekend along with the 4:27 axle swap.

    2/6 - 2/7 update..
This will be my last update for a bit, going across the pond next week and will not be working on the CJ.
Well I got the 1964 Parts jeep disassembled and scavenged...
Here are some pics of the teardown, aftermath, and parts...

Now for some project notes and updates...
I have decided to keep the 5:38 gears that were under SARGE.. Few reason for this... First and foremost being the axles have already been gone through by Ryan... I trust that they are in good enough shape to get me down the road for the time being. Not having to do an axle swap will speed up the process and in all reality it can always be done at a later time once the jeep is rolling and driving under its own power. Secondly, I want to limit the top speed of this jeep for now. Keeping the original steering and drum brakes scared me a little at first... I know they are adequate for this vehicle, but I want to get acquainted with them and work the bugs out of the jeep before I’m pushing 65 MPH. (I should be able to come close to that anyway with the overdrive engaged)
I also just purchased some 18ga sheet and a few restoration body parts for the 3 areas of the tub that need attention. Bought a new welder (nothing special) and should be starting the body work in a few weeks. My main goal for when I return is to get the motor in the chassis and fire it up.
Speaking of the motor... got it buttoned up and painted this week. Need to finish bolting on the acc, sensors, exhaust manifolds... but the rotating assembly is all there and ready... Also the NOS Y PIPE for a CJ Dauntless V6...no need to fabricate an exhaust system now... its bolt and go!!
