I am in the middle of pulling the 258 out of my CJ7. I purchased a rebuilt engine that came with a Summit HEI distributor. The new engine is a little bit of pig in a poke since it has set for 3 years. I have the old engine out and I'm getting ready to install a new clutch on the new engine. Once I get the engine installed, I plan to spin the oil pump till I get pressure. From that point I need help -

1- Since there is no distributor currently in the engine (hole is covered), I can't follow the Summit install instructions, that begin by marking the location of the old distributor. What is the best method for determining how the distributor should be installed? Anyone have good instructions (or a video)?

    2. Since I won't be using the stock coil and engine control unit (or whatever the box is called) what is the easiest way to wire the HEI? I believe there are only 2 wires - one to the tach and one 12v power. Can I use the old wiring harness to connect to the tach and provide power?

    Thanks,
    Barry
