    what is this thing above the exhaust ports on my 225 heads? the closest thing in that part of the head i can find in my manual is for the smog equipment but the pics are not very clear. can i replace them with bolt to plug the hole?

    Air pump ports. original emissions equipment included a belt driven air pump. Actually work better without it and unless your state requires inspection, leave it the way it is.

    As Duffer said.

    If you are looking for a cleaner appearance, or to eliminate the sharp corners of the pinched off tube (a sure knuckle scraper), then yes, you can replace them with bolts, or even set screws. I'd recommend some threadlocker on any replacement item you put into these holes.

    You can go to Home Depot and get a half dozen 1/4" pipe plugs and screw them in tight w/loctite

    update: i got some stainless setscrews 1/2" long with 1/2"x13tpi threads and the fit perfectly.
