Ok tired of shifting gears and my jeep is used on and off road, I'm putting xj springs under it and moving the rear back 7 inches. My ? Is I can get my hands on a tf999 rebuilt with bell and converter cheap will this tranny work with my Dana 20 or will I need a difrent tcase, how difficult would it be and what all is involved? I have a 75 cj5 with a 258 and the jeep it was going in was a 81 scrambler with a 258

The CJ 999 used the Jeep Dana 300 transfer case. Different bolt pattern and input. A 300 is considered an upgrade by most people. Quieter, better low range, and a little stronger. Lots of aftermarket support as well.
If the 999 came from a YJ make sure it has the 23 spline output shaft to mate to the 300 input. There were some 21 spline output transmissions and won't work with the 300

So it will work but will need a d300 and what about crossmember, and I'm sure the floor will need to be changed anything else I'm missing and is it worth it?

Drive shafts, kick down linkage, shift linkage, cooler and lines, torque converter matched to engine, flex plate for engine, Dana 300, build or modify and move crossmember/skid plate. The shift linkage for the transfer case may be an issue because of the transfer case being pushed back. Check the length carefully to see if you will be able to put in a rear drive shaft. You may find the I-6 is weak with an automatic in a Jeep. Good engine with a manual but a fair amount is lost through an auto trans. Not an issue with a V-8.

If you have a small body lift it will clear the floor without major surgery. You will need to drill 3 holes in the crossmember. 2 for the mount and 1 for the torque stud. You will need to move the crossmember back a little but since its an open channel frame its just drilling 4 new holes. You may find that you will need to drop the crossmember and shim the rear springs to adjust the angles with such a short driveshaft. I put a 999 behind the 304 in my 74 CJ6 and it fit like it belongs there.
