    Don't know about the one you showed, Years ago I had Mititoyo [ that spelling is way wrong ] but they worked great. Also had a some Sterrett stuff that was great.

    Ziv,I have the central c-clamp version, been using it for 30 years no problems.

    That setup should work just fine. I've never setup my own gears, but I have been a machinist for a good while. There are definitely better brands out there (Starrett, Mitutoyo, Interapid, etc.), but for shop use that one looks good to me.
