anyone running 33x9.5x15?

I have 33x12.5x15 on 10x15 rims now...but I also have a set of the Renegade rims 7x15 that I'd like to use eventually.

I like the 33" tire height and was wondering how the 9.5" wide work out for some folks that have them? I think the 33x9.5x15 would work well on the Renegade rims.

Comments? Pics?

Oh...current are the BFG AT's, I'll probably stick with that type for new tires, but I'm not hitched to that thought.

i had the 33x9.5 on stock wheels with only a shakle lift, that was perfect!
i build my own beadlocks with a set of summit.

Great pic Wuze. Looks like we have the same type of shackle lift. Is that tire aired down or flat?

 

Are you wanting to keep the front tires out of the springs? Or just like the look of the narrower tire?

Personally I think 9.50's are a little narrow. I run 33x12.50 on stock renegade wheels and have always been annoyed with the tires hitting the front springs during sharp turns. I was contemplating narrower tires next time around, but then I added 1" wheel spacers to clear my disc brake conversion, what a huge difference.

If you like the narrower tire I think 10.50's are about right. If you like the look of the 12.50's but are after a better turning radius, 1" wheel spacers are one of my favorite mods so far.

I have 33x10.5R15 KM2s on my CJ-6, 7" wheels.



BFG specs a 7-9" rim width for that tire.

 

I want to make sure that the tire width and the wheel width are within spec....i.e. I don't want a tire slipping the bead when aired down because it's too large for the wheel. And I would like to use the Renegade slots that I have so I assume the best tire for that combo would be the 9.5" width.

Plus I want to match whatever I put on the Jeep with whatever I'm going to use for the M416 that it will be pulling.

I adjusted my turn stops so that the tires don't hit the springs anyway so that isn't an issue (along with the 3.25" backspacing on the existing wheel).

74Renegade I'd love to see some pics of the wheel/tire combo that you have.

I'll post up a few pics tonight when I get home. I was never happy with how far I had to adjust out the turn stops with the stock wheels and 33x12.50 tires. Just out of curiosity what are the specs of a stock renegade slot? 15x7 or 8?

 

The aluminum slots are 7" wide.

 

I'm running 9.50s on 7" rims. Should have put them on 6" rims maybe. I still get rub on the springs up front at full lock but, I have the stops turned as far in as I can get them. They will rub the inside of the rear fenders, slightly, at full stuff. Never have to worry about rubbing or cutting them on the outside sidewall. I think I'll go with 10.50 next time and still not need flares. Outside of the JEEP stays pretty clean with the skinny tire and no flare. I believe it would climb better with a 10.50. Ofcourse, I've always been afraid to drop the pressure below about 12 psi.

 

Seems that the consensus is that the 10.5 is okay on a 7" rim without issue. That makes me feel better. I do like the width for stability and good off road traction vs skinny tires. I also feel better because I've had a heck of a time trying to get another wheel to match my 10" slots so right now I have no spare, at least with the Renegade rims I can find them occasionally for a spare and when I need the trailer setup.

BTW, the BFG web site still shows that it offers the 9.5" so I think they do still make them, availability is another issue.

 

Mine don't rub, because I have a D30 and my wheels have 2.5" back spacing. The L78-15 Co-ops it came with, on stock 6" wheels, rubbed the springs quite a lot.

 

I think the all-terrain type tread is still available in the 9.5 but, not the mud tire (whatever they're calling them now, O-K or K-O or T_M or something).

Aye on the open front diff. That won't be the case for long, I hope. Pun intended. Never did crest that hill.

 

These are 32x9.50-16's on my CJ5. They're actually 235-85R16, but that's the metric equivalent. I have a 3" Black Diamond lift and have plenty of clearance. The wheels are 16x7" solid steel Cragar's. The tires are Treadwright retreads.
