My 1973 style pedal return spring on the back side of the pedal has rusted and broken. Is there a alternative spring that can be used back there to have the pedal pad spring back?

It's a generic part. All Jeeps '74-80 (and likely beyond) use the same part. PN 3193369.

Remarkably, it's available from Crown: https://www.amazon.com/Crown-Automotive-J3193369-Accelerator-Return/dp/B00BA7AXK4

You could have looked this up if you owned the parts book. Cheap on CD-ROM. 1974 JEEP CJ5 5.0L 304cid V8 Part Guide | RockAuto
Seems this is paper - it has been available for less on CD-ROM. The '74 CJ is almost identical to '73. Badges, smog.

Probably also in here: https://oljeep.com/parts_man/62-73_FSJ_PartsCatalog_w_bm.pdf (big file!)
