Today I pulled the seats, shifters, and gas tank to install a molded rubber floor mat from Auto Custom Carpets. The fit wasn't as good as I'd hope, and I still have some work to do to smooth it out some more. I decided to install the insulation, even though I fear it will soak up and hold water. If it's an issue, I'll pull the insulation out. This was actually a lot of work; took me about 7 hours. I actually put the top down so I could get some sun on the mat to make it easier to work with.

I would bet defroster ducting. If you look it runs underneath the windshield. Probably drilled holes to blow warm air from the heater on the windshield.

Patrick, I have a black one-piece mat from ACC that's going in my J20. ACC advised me to use a heat gun to make it conform to the floor.

Looks good so far! I had a double layer of the jute padding under my first two CJs' carpet kits, and it helped a lot with noise and heat. I never noticed the padding getting soaked, but this was Orange County California, and there was not a lot of rain.

I got the heat gun after it. It does soften up, but isn't really "formable". It is what it is. I just took it for about 40 miles on the highway, and the floor heat from the exhaust, as well as transfer case noise id much better inside.

Yes, defroster. It's made from cellular core PVC pipe and actually works quite well.

Worn, sagged Black Diamond springs replaced with 4" Superlift. I gained about 2" in the front, and near an inch in the back, depending on which side you measure since the whole RH side of the Jeep sat over an inch lower than the left. Feels much better now, not as much dive under braking, and leaning in corners.
