    American Motors Experimental....
I eluded to the possibility of this project for my dad a little while ago.... and it appears to be getting started.
I just booked shipping on a 1968 American Motors AMX.
    390 AMC engine
    Borg Warner super T10
    Factory GO Pack car
    Dealer installed Rally Pack gauges
Twin grip rear with 3.15 gears
    Power disc front, drum rear
    27k miles on ODO
Have pictures of car taken down to bare metal, patch panels welded in, floorboards... ect
More pics to come with it arives!

    The Plans are:
Engine..... Edelbrock aluminum heads, Edelbrock Multiport EFI with Victor Jr intake, roller cam, 500 hp 91 oc
Transmission..... T56 6 speed, wide ratio, 50% overdrive
Rear diff...... 4.10 or 4.27 gears with tru trac AMC 20 will get ford big bearing housing ends
Suspension...... Control Freaks Auto cross/road race front frame, Control Freaks rear 4 link with coil over
    Steering...... Power rack and pinion
Brakes...... Wilwood Pro 12" rotors all the way around, 6 piston up front, 4 piston in rear, driver bias adjust
Comfort...... Corbeau leather race seats with heaters, Vintage air AC
Wheels..... Vintage Trans-Am series aluminum wheels 17" with 245/45/z17 tires
Exterior.... Lowered, Mark Donohue front air dam and rear spoiler
Interior..... will have an comfort style roll bar with x bracing running down to rear suspension, seat side bars

The purpose of this car....... is a street legal road race car..... for ice cream runs, Sunday drives, weekend trips, and beating on at the various west coast road course tracks. We expect to take this car to its max on the road courses, it will get spun out at some point, it will lift a front tire off the curb at Sears Point.
We are gonna have some fun with it.

My dad wants to drive the car for a little bit before we gradually make the upgrades. Fuel injection and air conditioning will be the first modifications. It will likely be several years before it reaches its full potential.

    Enough hieroglyphics....

Growing up my neighbor had an AMX in the garage that never saw the light of day. Always thought they were pretty cool, and that's a beauty.

I stopped liking the Javelins when they went with those big bubble fenders up front. Like '71 or '72 maybe.

My inner old man says I’d have a very difficult time modding such a pristine fairly original amx. That thing is super rad!!!

So a lil road trip happened last night. Woke up this morning and found this in my truck bed.
401, tall deck of course, purchased only for the block and timing cover. Literally everything else will be aftermarket. We are shooting for 440ci.

The car finally arrived! It is a little nicer than expected...... But not so perfect that we are ruining anything.
First order of business will be timing and carb adjustments. It doesn't want to run cold and once its warm it diesels when you shut it off... :banghead:
It does have good power.... although the 3.15 rearend gearing is a bit high for parking lot driving.

After 8 months of ownership we are ready to make the first major modification.
Silver Sport transmission has put together an AMC specific kit using the new Tremec TKX 5 speed transmission. Our original plan was for a 6 speed...... but this new 5 speed has a slimmer case to allow fitment in small body pony cars without modifying the transmission tunnel. No cutting means that the shifter housing locates the shift lever in the factory hole and uses the factory shift lever. We went with the close ratio, 2.87 first gear and .68 overdrive. With the short rear tires and 3.15 gears the freeway cruise should be about 2100 rpm at 70 mph. Eventually the tires/wheels will be larger and the rear gear will likely go to 3.54. This transmission is rated at 600 ft lb of torque and 7500 rpm. The complete kit includes hydraulic clutch conversion, McLeod clutch, driveshaft, bell housing, speedometer adapter shift knob, ARP hardware, transmission mount and more. I am hoping to install everything the first part of February.
